ring design question

Hi, you all have been very helpful and I have one more question. I am having a 5 stone (1.67tcw.) diamond anniversary ring made in a trellis design. I wanted the diamonds to be set without a basket, just the prongs holding them, the jeweler said that the basket is necessary to secure the diamonds. What are your opinions? thanks, Dinsky

If you use your own advice, against the recommendations of the designer of the ring, then you are going to have to accept responsibility for the loss of the diamonds should they fall out. The necessry re-inforcement of the prongs with a little basket wire is not a bad or ugly thing. Your eyes will accomodate to it.

i'd like to see a picture too. maybe it's something other design you're after? I do agree with the above posters that you need to listen to your jeweler. I wouldn't ask them to make something they don't feel is secure or comfortable with. however, some designers do make the same settings day in and out and have them perfected. you might be better off finding one that's already made?? anyway, here's a picture of demelza's Sasha Primak trellis ring.. is this what you are wanting?

I am by no means an expert but my ring is set with only prongs. I was told to have the stone checked twice a year, but I shouldn''t expect any problems. Not sure what to say, but if your ring is anything like what MrsSalvo posted, it''s very pretty. Good luck.
