I''m looking for some direction on ring and setting customization. So far all the research I''ve done has been on diamonds which I''ve narrowed down and feel pretty confident about my choice (RB 1.23 G/VVS2 WF ACA). My next move is to put together a ring setting. I''m a 3D designer (characters and architectural) by trade, so I wanted to try drafting some stuff up and bringing it to a local jeweler to have them create a wax. So far, I''ve found tons of info on the diamond front but very little about what specs go into making a good setting. I''m thinking of a solitaire setting, and I''ve been browsing various looks. I''m generally thinking 4-prong, platinum and want to go from there.
Some of my main concerns off the top of my head:
What type of setting will allow for the best light and show off the diamond most?
At what height off the ring is the diamond more vulnerable?
Any other tolerances and info I should take into consideration..
Ideally I''d just like to design the look and have the person doing the final crafting worry about the specific details, but if there are things I should take into consideration, I''d like to have them in mind ahead of time.
Also, if there are any good articles and resources on pricescope or elsewhere, I would really appreciate some direction.
Many thanks,
Sid
