OK, forgive me if this sounds stupid...

I just got my ring from Whiteflash and it is awesome. Truly a wonderful piece of art and once I ge my camera to cooperate I will post pictures. Right now I have a quick question for the group.

Apparently WF has changed their ring boxes from the black one I was expected to a new cherry wood box. It is very, very, nice looking, BUT it says Whiteflash.com in the inside instead of the silver WF I was expected. To me that makes it sound kind of impersonal. I would recommend WF to anyone (and I will) but I wish the .com part wasn''t on there. Whenever I tell people I bought the ring online I get pretty weird looks until I explain everything...

am I making too big a deal out of this?

thanks all

and again, WF did a great job with the ring and is the most important part

I really thought the black boxes were very classy looking. I would agree that I would not want .com on the inside of an engagement ring box. WhiteFlash is very receptive to customer input, and I am sure they will take this into consideration. I am sure Allison will pass it along. In the meanwhile, call your sales rep and ask if they have any of the old boxes left that they could send you.

Jewelry is all about the romance and the look and feel of the details.I agree that the wording on the box is important to the all around presentation of the ring.I think the original logo is better then a .com which is too casual a marketing approch for the quality of jewelry they represent.I would ask them for a new box.Im sure they will understand your position.

I do EVERYTHING over the net.
Buy groceries, diamonds, pizza, gifts, books, flat screen TV, shopped for real estate, you name it. I guess I have a different view of .com

Yeah, I think it''s a big deal about nothing...but it''s about what makes YOU happy. If they have any old boxes left, you have nothing to lose by asking.

I made a thread about this a few weeks back and people told me that their boxes don''t say ".com"

I find that repulsive. Online shopping is great and all but an engagement ring is supposed to be classic and romantic. ___.com doesn''t scream high romance to me.

I''m not repulsed by the thought of purchasing online but I doubt your GF knows as much about diamonds as you do after your time on this forum and I doubt even further that she''d like the sight of whiteflash.com.

Mike,

I remember you asking that question a little while ago (and was glad that you did) which is part of the reason I posted this, sort of a follow-up to your thread.

She would probably not even notice the .com, and if she did she wouldn''t care. However, when I show her dad the ring and ask for his blessing I really would rather the box not have .com printed on it. Part of the allure to buying from WF, GOG et al is that they are actual B/M stores that sell over the web--not just web sites.

Yeah it''s just not old fashioned which is probably what the parentals are into. I hadn''t even gotten that far in the thought process. I can''t even imagine what my GFs grandmother would think, haha

I agree that isn''t very "sexy"... let WF know how you feel, they are responsive. On the bright side, in the meantime you can probably buy a ring box that is lovely for like $5 bucks.

Maybe WF will send you one of their old ones if you call and tell them how you feel?

Ditto, you should call them.

You know you are onto something here. Good point. I picked my ering from WF, so I wasn''t fussed about the writing inside (blinded by the ACA

). However, now you point it out, I guess if a man were proposing as a suprise with an ering, the .com may be a big off-putting I think. And there is always the negative about people buying over the net, but you get that. You will more that likely have a killer stone to PROVE that point, hey!

I am sure Allison will pass it on. I really love the cherry colour box though, very classy. But I think I also do prefer that WF symbol.

Then don't tell them. Why are you talking about your business with people anyway? If you didn't, you wouldn't have to "explain" yourself.

I don't see why you should show her family the box, the ".com" is on the inside of the box, not the outside, and you've said your girlfriend wouldn't care anyway. I don't see what there is to worry about.

Still, it seems like you're determined to be upset by it so call WF up and ask them to send you a different box. If they can't, there are tons of ring boxes.

I'm sorry I'm not more sympathetic and I know that everyone wants everything to be perfect for their engagement, marriage, and life, but people would be a lot happier if they put this kind of thing in perspective IMO. It's a "magic moment" and a "fairy tale day" but it's real life afterward.

Anyway, I hope they have one of their old boxes left for you.

Whiteflash, if you're reading this- using your ring boxes for marketing (cough, cough- go to whiteflash.COM) is not a classy move. We know that putting ".com" after a company name takes us to a company website.

Is that really fair Imdanny?

I don't know if you're engaged, but I know that almost every person I discuss my ring with asks where I bought it, and I can completely understand why the OP would be uncomfotable about disclosing its from the net - 99% of people are not enlightened like our community here and probably will automatically think "ebay" or something else silly..
I agree with the OP, not classy to have a .com on the box - and everybody wants their engagement to be classy, after all.
He has already spent alot of money at WF, why do you think he should spend more for another box?

nb. WF, iif you must have it, keep the .comit to the external packaging only, and low profile.

I agree, putting .com on a box containing an engagement ring is a bad idea. A lot b&m's probably have registered domain names, but I wonder how many mainly promote or list themselves as their domain name? Adding .com just sounds too impersonal and rather tasteless imo.

I understand the companies point-of-view with wanting to raise awareness and generate traffic etc..., but realistically how many people that don't already know about thier online presence are going to go to their website because the ring box lists their domain name?

I just bought a ring from GOG but haven't gotten it yet, and will definitely be putting it in a different box if it lists their domain name front-and-center. I'm an IT guy and have no problem telling anyone how and where I bought the rings, but it's less than romantic to have that glaring when she opens the box.

Hey, that''s a bit harsh! We are supposed to be buddies around here.

I totally understand the desire to make the proposal special. Men get put under an immense amount of pressure and it''s totally fine to want everything to be just right.

It is natural for people to ask where someone got something. If I tell people I had a nice dinner they are going to ask where I ate. This is going to especially be true when they see the ring. Asking me how much I paid would be out of line, but asking where I got such a nice product? That is just a smart move on their part.

I think it is great to be able to buy from WF, Signed Pieces or the other reputable vendors on line here.

However, as great as the ring is, I would not want the .com on my ring box, screams too much of marketing. WF has a lot of e-ring sales so I am surprised they have done this, perhaphs some of this feedback will make them reconsider. They can always add a business card with .com details, and a tasteful box. I would definately buy another box, which is a pity, as a nice box with tasteful company name is a marketing tool but not so blatently obvious.

Good luck and enjoy your ring

GOG give 3 choices of ring boxes to my knowledge, all "plain" without any branding.
imho, the teak wood is the nicest option. Which did you choose?

I recall choosing a plain black box, wood didn''t sound attractive to me at the time. I love wood, don''t get me wrong. I checked out that custom wood box someone mentioned and really liked that it had slots for 2 rings and the box itself was really really nice. I''m getting a new e-ring and wedding band and would really like to have them in the same box. That custom box was kinda pricey though, but probably worth every penny.

I''m going to ask GOG if they have a box that''ll hold 2 rings.

Thanks for all the great feedback in this thread, folks. We''re always grateful for the opportunity to hear what our customers think and how we can improve.

I agree with the others that although you might buy from a dot com, the box doesn''t have to point that out. The box shouldn''t take away or distract from the ring.

With that in mind, I''m trying to figure out if Mark Morrell provides that cherry wooden box with his rings. Does anybody know? Everyone who shows their rings from him has it in that box, so I would guess so, but want to make sure.

I believe the name of the company isn''t Whiteflash. It''s Whiteflash.com. So they aren''t using their website link, they are using their actual name the same way Tiffany uses "Tiffany & Co." on their boxes.

It was a trendy thing companies did about 10 years ago and now they are stuck with the .com name unless they legally change it. They might consider that but I think their name has become very important to them as they''ve developed a reputation in the jewelry business.

I personally wouldn''t worry about .com being on the label, but if you don''t like the box go ahead and find a really cool one to present the ring to your future fiance. An antique box or a wood carved box or something like that would be very fun and personal! I don''t really have a problem with the WF boxes, but it would be great if online vendors gave you more of a selection of boxes when you make a large purchase or if they offer specialty boxes on their site to choose from.

Thanks to everyone for your opinions and advice.

Update:

I emailed my WF salesperson last night after hours to ask if they had any of the old boxes in stock and was going to follow up with a phone call this morning. Before I had the chance, someone from the PR department at WF called me to ask what my concern with the box was. After I explained my opinion to her, she proceeded to ask me questions how what I would like to see, what I wouldn''t like both in terms of the ring box and the packaging in general. I was amazed by this. It is extremely rare in today''s world to have a company ask a little guy what their opinion is, and I get the feeling she was actually listening and caring!

Than, about 15 minutes after this call I get another one from WF asking if it was ok for them to send me another box to my shipping address. Now that is customer service, and all from a few quick lines in an email. Talk about attention to details.

While I still don''t like ".com" on my ring box, I cannot say enough good things about Whiteflash. They are a fantastic company and one I recommend whole heartedly.

Thats awesome Muss - I have made enquiries with WF about making me a setting and its stories like yours that make me really look forward to working with them!

I know this is a bit late but I wasn''t able to get to my computer earlier today.
I read your post and do agree with you.
I have a couple of the old black boxes and just changed my e-ring and received the new box and at the time didn''t notice the .com...anyway long story short...
I was speaking with my sales rep Katie from WF today and I mentioned your thoughts and she too was super receptive and saw your point and was quick to pass the word. I figured Alison had already passed the info along but just thought I''d say something since I had a SA on the phone.
I am so happy to see that they took care of your concerns so promptly, they really are a great company!
I hope your engagement plans go FABULOUSLY!!!
All the very best!

Allison, I''m so sorry I misspelled your name in my last reply to the post.

I think it is a bad idea to have .com inside the ring box. The beautiful silver WF logo is sufficient to promote company but still look prestegious. The .com name looks cheap and like blatent advertising. Sort of reminds me of how companies are breaking their heads to think of cunning ways to advertise, so you get adds on the back of taxies, back of dockets etc. Its almost like seeing a pop up add in your er box!!!!!

So whether the .com is their legal name or not, I think the WF should be used inside the packaging as it is more elegent.

Okay, we don''t have to keep belaboring the point. I am pretty sure that every single employee of WF, including the mail clerk, is now aware that Psers believe that the dot-com on the box is a dot-don''t.
31.gif
The important aspect to this story, imo, is that they immediately got Muss what he wanted AND are so receptive to customer feedback. By the way, I got a chance to see these boxes when I toured their offices the other day, and the cherry wood is absolutely gorgeous. You rarely see a jeweler sink so much money into the box. To whatever extent some think the ".com" takes away, the quality of that box more than makes up for it. Congratulations to Muss that it all worked out.

If people ask where you got the ring and you don''t want to explain the whole story, just say that you had it custom made by, or got it from, a jeweler in Houston.

Great service from WF! Have you posted photos in SMTR and I just missed them?
