Right size solitaire to pair with a 20 pter eternity band?

I have an eternity with 20 pt diamonds. It is my engagement ring but I'm thinking I would like a solitaire too. As far as scale goes, would a 2-2.5 ct look too small? There is no way our bank account could handle anything close to 3ct. Does anyone have pics to share? The eternity's diamonds are f/g. If I dropped the color of the solitaire to I or possibly J, with some fluorescence, would it look ok?
I'm thinking of a simple band similar to Tiffany's.

To be honest with you, I think the 20 pointers would overwhelm a 2-2.5 ct solitare. I would put the solitare on my other hand.

Re: Right size solitaire to pair with a 20 pter eternity ban

I agree. I think anything over 10 pointers is too big for a wedding band. 15 or 20 points is best for a standalone ring. I'd wear this ring as an alternate to your wedding set on days you don't want to wear a larger diamond or move it to your other hand. If you get a 2 ct. e-ring stone, 8 to 10 pointers would be the max I'd want in the wedding band.

(But I wouldn't do a J solitaire with an F-G wedding band, either. I try to stay within 1 color range, so H color would be about as low as I'd go.)

My ering is 1 ct and my 5 stone wedding band is .15 each and its pretty darn blingy with all that, my e-ring does not stand on its own very well with the wedding band, but in my case that is what I wanted because my e-ring is a poorly cut princess cut so to me personally I love the bling its one great big sparkle fest :appl:

Thanks for the imput. I guess I'll stick with just the eternity and the wedding band. I've already suggested to my fiance that stackers would be nice gifts. There is a beautiful sapphire and diamond square cut eternity on the bistro...so tempted. I love my eternity and pretty much wear it 24/7.

Re: Right size solitaire to pair with a 20 pter eternity ban

It truly is a beautiful band!

Re: Right size solitaire to pair with a 20 pter eternity ban

I have a five stone .20 pointer with a 1.25 center and .40 sides. I think it's perfect!

Re: Right size solitaire to pair with a 20 pter eternity ban

I wear my 1.00 ct 5 stone with my 1.57 pear and love it.

Re: Right size solitaire to pair with a 20 pter eternity ban

My center stone is 2.60 and my anniversary/wedding band is made up of seven .25 pointers. Very blingy yes, but that's what I love! Hope this helps!
Edit: my ring size is 4-3/4 for reference.

I think it will overwhelm that size diamond. I recently tried on eternity bands with diamonds sized anywhere from .10 up to .33.The size .16 up to .20 looked best with my sized diamond, which is 9.9 mm--it's a cushion cut. To me that size enhanced the diamond and didn't fight for attention.

That being said, I do love the look blinged out look of this solitaire and band  ---but, I think it is the absolute maximum I would go in size difference between the eternity band diamonds and the solitaire: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/sna77-do-you-have-any-pics-of-your-ring.95349/ and same diamond/ eternity here on the last page: https://www.pricescope.com/forum/rockytalky/40k-budget-find-me-a-diamond-t168853-360.html Somewhere on those pages it says the size of the solitaire as well as the eternity bands, but I think the larger band is .15 or .16 (2.86 and 18 diamonds I think) and the diamond is 2.26 or something like that--sorry I didn't have time to re-read the exact specs. ;)

The story behind those threads is that sna's wife's eternity ring of .15-.18's hit against her e-ring and chipped it! They had to give the e-ring to the insurance company in order to replace it. When she replaced her e-ring, she got a new wedding band with 3 pointers and is wearing the old eternity ring as a right hand, stand alone ring.

:errrr: Oh my goodness, DS! I've been drooling all over her blinged out eternity band/ solitaire combination all this time (obviously only looking at photos and not reading). How disappointing for them. :blackeye: So really, there is a darned good reason not too go to big on an eternity-- or would a spacer ring have prevented that from happening?

A spacer might have helped, BUT, the big factor for her was that her fingers were super slim below the knuckle so her rings were a little loose on which allowed them to hit together. I don't think one of those tiny spacers would have really prevented this, so I think they made the right decision to go with the thin diamond band to wear with the e-ring. In a way, it can make the e-ring diamond look larger, too.

Re: Right size solitaire to pair with a 20 pter eternity ban

I pair my 2.4ct center with my 15-pt eternity ring and a 2-mm band in between. I think 15-pt is the largest possible melee size for my ER diamond size. You can search my thread for photos to decide for yourself.

Projecting from my set, I think you will definitely need over 3-carat center for a 20-pt eternity band. However, the important question is not if you are willing to spend the big money for a large diamond. Rather, it is if you have enough finger real-estate for the lengthy, trio combo. I barely made it with mine.

As for the thin spacer, I think it does a fine job protecting my diamonds and rings (metal part). I feel safe with it on.

I love your rings and totally agree with your conclusions! (When I was talking about a thin spacer in the previous post, I meant those tiny 1 mm bands that some people use. 2 mm should be much safer!)
