RHR wearers - do you have problems knocking it?

I was bought a lovely old diamond ring for Christmas, intended for my right hand. However, being right-handed and not used to wearing anything other than a band ring on that finger occasionally, I find I'm catching it. Some of these knocks have been quite hard and I'm worried I'll damage the diamond.

Do others have this problem? Do you get used to wearing it? Should I "train" myself to wear a higher ring than my plain 2mm band (if that can even be done)?

TIA

My original RHR was a 1.19ct EC diamond that was set too high for my liking, and I did have issues with it knocking/catching, even when I wore a 2mm plain titanium band with it.

I had another RHR ring with a smaller EC diamond and much lower setting, bezel-set east-west in a platinum band, and it developed a satiny patina in no time. It is my day to day RHR.

The larger EC has since been re-set in its forever home, in a much lower setting, and it appears to knock/catch less compared with the original. However, I do not wear it on a day to day basis as it is too blingy for work wear for me.

IMHO, if one is right-handed, then it is inevitable that the RHR will receive some knocks and bumps. Therefore, I would not advise wearing anything too delicate or bulky as a day to day RHR.

DK :))

I can't wear a ring on my right hand unless it's a plain band. I'm just not careful enough. Such a shame because I'd love a blingy RHR.

Yes, I knock it frequently. It would help substantially if it were a lower set ring but it's my engagement ring so resetting it isn't an option for me.

I wear rings on the right hand at times but also make sure that it is low set to minimize spinning and knocks.

Yes I knock it frequently. I changed my RHR to a five stone low set band because I was too rough. This works nicely as an everyday and doesn't catch, nor does it call attention, which is nice in my line of work. I do love the look of big bold RHR on days off of work but I'm not a delicate girl. I do wear a larger RHR for nights out etc.

Yes, so I usually don't wear rhrs.

I have worn an assortment of colored stone and diamond RHRs through the years and did
get some nicks on the girdle of my tanzanite, but didn't have problems with the others
(sapphires, ruby, emerald, rhodolite, amethyst, opals).

My newest RHR (a 2.21 ct. CBI diamond) is set rather low and I haven't had issues with it.
The shank is a bit scratched up on the bottom, but that is to be expected.

I also scratched and dinged the bottom of my Tiffany yellow diamond RHR knife edge shank,
more so than the Vatche, because the Tiffany knife edge goes all the way around.

I have never "caught" my RHRs on anything except the one time at school when someone slammed a door on my hand and
my 2.05 D/VS2 diamond fell to the floor (I never use 4 prong mountings after that incident) and I
had to sit through 3 hours of orchestra practice with a diamond in my pants pocket.

Thanks All.

I dug around in my box and found an old ring that's set as high as my new ring. It's something that I wouldn't mind dinging so am going to try to wear it in an effort to get used to the new one. I'd only wear the new one out in the evenings or special occasions, so hopefully I won't damage it. It's over 100 years old and has a few rough spots on the girdle, but I don't want to re-set or not wear (though it does make an unusual ER if I fancied a change so that's another option sometimes, too).
