I finally have my custom Lotus ring from Sally at HeartofWaterJewels on Etsy, featuring a 7 x 8.3 mm "Tanga" rhodolite garnet cut by Barry Bridgestock of acstones.com.
First up, some shots of the color and cutting of the stone.
Shots of the lotus ring. It is so beautifully polished and finished. The band is extremely thin, which probably makes this not an every day ring, but it is very graceful and feminine.
And this is what happens when the garnet goes brown. For me, it's under the CFL lights in my living room at night. Under "old school" flourescents, which have more of a blue light component, I notice more of the blue-red wine color. But this is the brown-red color that I always used to think of when I thought of garnets. I think the CFLs put out almost no blue light, and it sucks the life out of the stone.
I love the lotus, it's one of my favorite settings. In fact, I have 3!
I wear my star sapphire lotus quite frequently, and honestly, the thin shank hasn't really posed much reason for concern or dissuaded me from not wearing it on an almost daily basis.
So Yummy!!! I love how your pics show the stone as raspberry, then red, then a beautiful coppery color. The setting is beautiful and even more interesting is the stone is set east/west. Gorgeous!!!
Sweet stone Milton! Love the colour as it changes and shifts in the different lighting situations. And the lotus setting ---- oh, that is so beautiful no matter what stone is set in there!!
I hope that the thin band poses no issues for you - it really looks great on your hand!
Very nice! I love that setting, so graceful & delicate. I have a blue zircon baby lotus as a pinky ring. No problem with the shank at all, though I don't wear it every day due to the zircon, not the setting.
I like the fact that the stone is set high enough so there is enough light flowing through it. It shows the beauty of the stone. The ring looks good on your hand, and the stone seems to be well-cut. It does not darken too much in the evening like many rhodolites do. Any pictures out in a sunny weather? Many rhodolites look fantastic out in the sun.
