Recently, I''ve noticed silver jewelery being rhodium plated. Has anyone ever rhodium plated one of their already-owned silver pieces (vs. buying one already plated)?

I have the Tiffany starfish necklace, which I adore, and I wonder if it''d work to get it plated. It tarnishes after only a few days. Would it be risky having this procedure done?

I thought Tiff''s does plate their silver to prevent tarnishing. No? Didn''t I read that somewhere?

If not, I''d ask them if they do it and how much they charge. If it''s not astronomical I might consider having them do it since it is a Tiffany piece. If not, I might consider plating it elsewhere. It''s the main reason I refuse to buy silver - I hate dealing with tarnish.

If they plate their silver that is a newer deal as the items I have are a few years old. Possibly that is why their prices went up?

Tarnish is pain. . . the only two silver items I wear are Tiffany items. I can''t give them up even with the hassle. They''re necklaces are so cute.

I was curious so I called Tiffany''s myself.

They don''t rhodium plate their silver, only the wg. The silver does tarnish, but they said that ''the more you wear it, the less it tarnishes - something to do with your body oils.''

Anyway, I''d probably go for it (rhodium plating) to avoid having to deal with tarnish at all!!

Thanks for calling! I may go ahead and plate my necklace since it really isn''t very expensive. (It was crazy to spend so much on a little necklace and now plate it, but I wear it SO often! Everyone must have at least one little Tiff. necklace
