Hello..I was wondering if anyone can give me some information regarding rhodium plating over a yellow gold ring. My engagement and wedding band are yellow gold and I am now into wearing white gold or silver. I would love to have my ring re-set but...that takes a lot of money! So, I was told that my option would be to have it plated. I have several friends who have done that and their rings are beautiful. If I should do it and become sick of it and want my ring back to the "ORIGINAL" state, is that possible or will I always have to re-plate it?

Thanks!

When the plating is lost (by rubbing...) on white metal base. it shows. Such wear marks will become quickly stryking on the contrasting, yellow base. How soon? I guess it depends on the quality of the plating (skill of maker, thickness) but at best is month. One good work colleagure, has her ring plated about four time a year (same reason) and I guess the shop she goes to (this has been a London story) does it well...

I have also seen this many times with friends who had it done and the plating wears off fairly quickly, especially if you are active and wear your rings all the time. And if you are in the "in between" stage, it looks really odd--spots of yellow shining through the worn areas.

I waited, saved and had my rings reset in platinum. It was worth it.

Good luck.
