Hi guys!

Okay so I've been doing a lot of reading on This forum and thought I'd start this thread for help this is my ring

I was 21 at the time and wanted something very unique and I loved yellow diamonds but wanted a white centre stone.

So this is my bling...as you can see the diamond isn't huge its 1.23ct e VS2 princess set in white and yellow gold surrounded by a yellow gold and diamond bridge and small white diamonds in the band.

While I like it I don't think I maximised the beauty of the diamond and I'm having DSS? I think that's what it is ? You know when you feel your diamond is tiny lol! So while I may upgrade in future I thought for now I could look at changing the setting to maximise the size. think I really should have gone a diamond halo and diamond band ... Like this

I'm just trying to get honest opinions. 1) the surrounding round diamond - should I go micro pave or larger to get it to look larger? I did look at the solitare to halo spread and noticed if you don't change size of the centre stone it really does look a little larger worth a halo just trying to sort out what type of halo and diamond size of the round brilliants I should go ! Oh and randomly I wear a wedding band on the right finger here it is

Not 100% clear what you are asking. The shot of your engagement ring isn't close-up enough to be able to give advice on revamping because I'm not sure what you have. You want to keep the center diamond and are thinking about haloing, is that correct?

However, I do love your wedding ring. I'm not ordinarily a fan of ovals or yellow, but what you have works beautifully. The swirling curves are lovely!

Hi! Sorry about that. Long story short Im looking to change the setting because my diamond looks tiny in comparison to the ring. I don't think I did a good job of showcasing the diamond the first time around and considering I can't afford a 2 plus ct at this stage,

here is a close up.. Well as close as I can get it on iPhone

I have done a fair bit of research and looked at the solitaire to halo thread. In all honesty most of them do look a little larger after a halo - im realistic in that i know it wouldn't be double in size but just looking to accentuate it. I'm needing help for below

1) how big should the stones in the halo be?
2)size of the stones in the band - just a single row of round diamonds im thinking. small or slightly larger?
3) bezel or prong set? I'm confused on this one, I'm not sure what would accentuate the size or reduce visually,

just trying to Suss out if it's worth it and what size surrounding diamonds and what type of halo. Just overall advice :) sorry for the confusion. This is an example of what I was talking about

I'd bezel set it in a halo. That will make it look its largest, I think.

The inspiration photo you picked I think has too large of melee in the halo. That will swallow your stone. Smaller pave would be best to make your stone pop.

I'd say go with ritani, but I don't know anyone who sells them anymore

I agree with Niel, bezel with smaller stones in the halo.

You're also asking about melee on the shank next to the head? Myself, I would slim the hank and go with the tiniest possible stones.

Your current ring has a LOT of yellow gold. Are you going to go with white gold or yellow gold for the revamp?

I think a halo is a great way to add some finger coverage and extra sparkle. Here is April20's pretty ring, I really like this style (hope she doesn't mind)

I also remember seeing a princess halo that was really well done where the corners were a bit rounded, but I can't find it for the life of me. I'll keep looking.

I agree that you want to keep the melee fairly small. I would say stay around 1 point. But some prefer a little larger, comes down to personal preference.

You can use the PS google search to search for princess cut in halos to see more examples.

on Page 15 the last one posted by yasssss is a split shank pave' (not a halo) but just beautiful and really showcases the diamond.

Also on page 15 at the top a halo posted by Shadylady730 that is very nice.

Page 14 at the top posted by Paveprincess I think is the ring that Junebug was looking for. Very nice halo with rounded corners.

Another way to get really nice coverage with a princess is a three stone. I love Enerchi's three stone princess.

Here's another great thread where a PSer was asking for ideas for a Princess cut.. .lots of great ideas.

One more.. this is a lovely halo too! With lots of finger coverage.

A halo may help you get more finger coverage... but I agree with Neil that the stones in the setting you posted are just too big. I would also personally go for rounded or clipped corners. Have you considered doing a halo with a plain shank? I know that may be heresy around here, but I think it adds some impact to the center stone.

ETA: I also like the idea of a 3-stone; maybe something with a tapered shank to emphasize the stones? or a swooping trellis 3-stone like this one from BGD? (can't get their regular site to load so here is the blog post http://blog.brianthecutter.com/2012...is-princess-cut-diamond-reset-by-brian-gavin/) or maybe even one with tapered baguettes?

Not heresy! I used to have a ritani plain shank bezeled halo for my pear. It was made the stone look utterly huge. And has a way of feeling both like a halo and a solitaire

I would study everything in this response and carefully go through all the threads that Mayk referenced. In my opinion only, please strongly consider setting options other than the picture you posted in your first posting. I can see you are using it as a starting point. There are many things to tweak to make setting look like an actual e-ring. Smaller melee, tilt to the halo, maybe a bezel...

I just perused the thread and particularly like these:

Like Mayk, Shadylady's is very lovely, elegant and integrated looking...

Not usually a fan of tacori, but this really flatters the stone, and shows it off.

Maybe add a split shank...

I love this one

I prefer something like LuvMyFamily has from Jeff Cooper. I apologize, but I keep trying to copy and paste her picture of it and I can't do it :(

I'll give it a try motownmama!

Thank you SO much!!!!! I think this is elegant and would make your (already good-sized) diamond look great!

Wow ! Thank you everyone for your advice I didn't think I'd get this much of a response ! I've gone through so many pictures now and while I do like a lot of them (especially the one Neil posted) I think the smartest thig for me to do is maybe not waste money on a reset and just eventually sell it the dimaond and get a completely new ring so that I'm totally happy with it rather than doing it and still wanting a different ring.

Ideally if I had it my way Id be having this - Demelzas beauty. I think rather than spending money to reset and then in another 5 years get this...maybe I'll just stick to this irrespective of how I feel about it and just wait for a total overhaul :( but thank you again to everyone it really helped make me realise that no matter what I look at it I'll still change it anyway and I don't want to do that :)

Here is Demelzas beauty jeeeezus!

Good idea, if you know that you will be changing your stone in the relatively near future, to save the $$$ to put it towards your dream diamond. :)

Another vote here for waiting for an upgrade! Better to figure it out now than after wasting money on resets that don't actually scratch the itch!
