So yesterday I start the big shopping. End of day, end up at RB. Well long story short I put money down on a MSID and ring. Well this is out of the ordinary for me anyway without doing a lot of research. So I get home after a night out and decide I have to research my purchase. Well I find Pricescope and realize I should be doing what the guy from BBB said, my homework. Needless to say I did not sleep at all/well the whole night. Hit up RB the minute they opened and got my down payment back. Why I even put down money I have no clue. Pressure from sales, I don''t think so, but this would be my guess

I am pretty sure I am going with Bailey Banks now, they both have the ring. My question is I am looking at G SI2 .73. When looking at it something just doesn''t feel/look right. So should I look at something more of a VS2-SI1 still G or have them start searching for another one with similar specs to the first. I am in my price ballpark with the specs of the first but willing to go down in size if needed.

Thanks all

It would be better if we knew what didn't look right.

Cloudy due to inclusions? (Rare for SI2)
Strong fluorescence?
Cut?

Maybe you need to look at more stones?

It''s good you went with your gut feelings and returned the diamond. It is hard to know what you mean here (highlighted above). Sounds like to me the cut is off? Also, what do you mean by "they both have the ring"? Are you talking about the setting you want? I ask because I bet you could get a better diamond at one of the Pricescope diamond vendors such as GoodOldGold, Whiteflash, or NiceIce.com. What setting do you have your eye on?

Still learning the lingo. I am not sure if it was cloudy but looked more like a dark area, maybe a inclusion. I agree that I need to look at more diamonds.

Here is the setting that I would like to go with. What do you think?

I would like to go with something like a G VS2-SI1 .75c, budget 3500. The side diamonds on setting are g-h SI1-SI2. They really need to add a car buying term to each term to helps us guys understand what the heck we are doing. I checked out whiteflash but they give you 50 options.......

Pealman''s carries Scott Kay; you should give Bill a call. He also carries nice diamonds.

Very pretty setting! You could save a little by ordering it in white gold as opposed to platinum. I don''t recall you saying that you wanted to stick with a round specifically.

Here is a great .77 ct. G/SI1 round from GoodOldGold priced at $3263 (less if you wire the money):

An H/VS2 .75 ct. at $3265 just to compare:

And a .82 ct. H/VS2 princess cut at $2689 just to compare:

If you are getting overwhelmed at all the options, call and talk to the diamond vendors. The Whiteflash "A Cut Above" (ACA) diamonds are great, and they could answer all your questions. Same thing with Jonathan at GoodOldGold. He was more than helpful when I was trying to decide on a diamond. Very patient man!

Can you get the proportions of the diamond? That way we might be able to get an idea of why the diamond doesn't look right, the numbers might indicate a reason. If you can, get the measurements below.

depth
table
crown angle
pavilion angle
diameter measurements
polish and symmetry
girdle thickness

I don''t have the specs of that diamond and after looking at more I have decided against it anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am kind of looking at the first one you listed.

The one thing that is really starting to get to me is how outrageous priced the stores are compared to on-line. Again I dont have the specs but another one I looked at was F, .70, Very good cut, SI2 and they priced it out at 3700. From what I can tell that is about 800 or so over priced. I just don''t get it.

Anyway, I think I am going to call Bill tomorrow. Off to bed and let the hunt continue.
