Retired ear piercings

Hi all

Has anyone retired any ear piercings after having them for many years? Why did you retire them and does the scars from the piercings still show? Do they bother you? How long did you have the piercings for?

I have two piercings in each ear and I would like a more simple look with just one in each ear but after having done the second piercings 20 years a go I doubt the scars from them will disappear.

My ears are triple pierced but have only used the main piercing in each ear for many years. I don't think the others are really noticeable.

I never notice unused or healed ear piercings on anyone except men. Maybe it’s because they have short hair, or maybe they did their own piercing? Idk. I have 3 in each ear and like @seaurchin said, I only use the main piercing for the most part. The third is healed over and you can’t see the scar. The second I can still get an earring post into but it makes them swollen and sore for a couple days, so I don’t usually do that. My main piercing is noticeable without earrings in, but I wear earrings every day without fail, and have done so for probably 20-25 years. I also had a hard time with piercings healing, my body does not like foreign objects.

I thought there was discussion here once (long ago) about having a doctor sew a stretched piercing closed, maybe that’s an option? But a basic second piercing you probably wore studs or a lighter earring in shouldn’t show that much.

Agree with this. Assuming the second piercing isn't stretched out at all, it should close up or at least not be too noticeable. My first piercing was when I was in second grade. They were done by a doctor and placed too low. Five years later, I had them redone and never really noticed the first much. Now, many years later, they basically look like a freckle on my ear. But were not stretched at all and so closed up fairly easily.

I had my ears pierced when I was about 12 and I am currently 62, I quit wearing earrings about 10-15 years ago because I developed a allergy and could no longer wear earrings...my holes are still there and just as noticeable as they were at 12, I had to go look hadn't paid any attention to them lol

I have three in each ear. As I’ve gotten older I only tend to wear 1. Not noticeable and I can still fit three in.
