Has anyone ever been to one of these events held at maul stores? They say you can bring in your stuff, and reset it for only the cost of the material.

Is there a limit? Like, I have a ton of teeny diamonds I''d like set in a pendant.
Do they scam you somehow?

Any opinions?

I hate to say it, but usually those events are a rip-off.

The markup is incredibly high. For example, a semi-mounting that might cost you $1000 at your local professional jeweler often sells for $2000 to $3000 at these events.

The markup has to pay for the salary of the traveling remount salesperson, the jeweler who travels with him, and their traveling expenses. On top of this the hosting jewelry store and remount company's home office get the lion's share of the profits.

This adds up to a lot of profit which has to be made off those remounts.

I usually don't comment on a companies profit, but in this case I consider it excessive. You're usually much better off having your local professional jewelry store order in or make a mounting for you.

Thanks for the heads-up, Rich! I appreciate it!

I worked at a chain store that had these type of events and the sales associates hated them because they had huge amounts of pressure placed on them to make appointments and sell overpriced mountings, and when there was a problem with the mounting or the stones falling out from reckless setting jobs, there was no support from the events parent company.Take Richards advice and find a store that guarentees their work and satisfaction at a better price.

As someone who''s store had them, yes take a pass. Listen to Richard.
