Restaurant Suggestion for the DC/MD/VA area...

I know we've got some foodies on the board... I'm looking for a great restaurant somewhere around the DC metro area up to around Baltimore. Price isn't important as long as it's worth it, also I'm not really interested in any Asian style places. I'm looking for something cozy, too.

Anyone?

Any experiences with Komi? or The Source?

I tend to eat cheaper, so I'm not TOO much help, but on the cozier scale, the Tasting Room at Restaurant Eve might fit the bill.

Ditto this. I have never been myself, but I have never heard of a single person being anything less than completely thrilled with their meal at RE.

I would also ditto the recommendations for Citronelle and Founding Farmers. Again, neither of which I've been to, but which have both come highly recommended to me.

As for MY favorites in the DC Area, if you like French cuisine, I would recommend Bastille in Alexandria, or for Modern American, Corduroy near the Convention Center (you MUST have a soup if you go to Corduroy. MUST.).

I really like L'Auberge Chez Francoise in Great Falls.

I've been to the Inn and Vidalia, and would have loved to have tried Citronelle but they don't have a reservation in sight. sigh. The search continues.

How's the atmosphere at Founding Farmers?

I would call it elevated rustic. Like drinks in mason jars.

This looks quite fun... I haven't spent much time in Alexandria so maybe that'd be a nice change of pace. Hmmm.... thanks for the suggestion!

Any chance you've been for their brunch?

I have! Had the pancakes and they were delicious. I've also been for lunch more times than I can count. If you're going on a weekday, the atomosphere can turn more - fancy cafeteria for professionals. We do a lot of our interview lunches, goodbye lunches, welcome lunches, etc. there.

Founding Farmers is good, but I wouldn't put it on a list of destination restaurants to visit. There are a few dishes there I enjoyed, and the drinks are a-mazing, but overall I'm not sure I would go there unless it was convenient.

You are spot on about the fancy cafeteria!

Speaking of convenient, L&R, you must work very very close to my future job! We totally are all going to have to do a DC GTG!

Fogo de Chao is in Baltimore and was a lot of fun (and delicious!). It's a Brazilian steakhouse and is fantastic. I think prices were around $50 a plate but it was totally worth it!

Don't go to the Source if you're trying to avoid Asian food. It's Asian fusion.

Inn at Little Washington: I don't really think is worth the drive these days. 10 years ago, yes when it still ranked as top 10 in the world. Today, not so much. The wine cellar is still amazing though.

All 3 Michel Richard restaurants are good, although Michel is still figuring out what it wants to be. Right now it's like Central and Citronelle averaged. Vidalia is one of my favorites.

Other good restaurants:

Rasika (North Indian)
Blue Duck Tavern
Minibar
Zaytinya
1789
Addie's
Poste
Kinkead's (decor is hideously dated)
Art & Soul (for lunch, fried chicken, not served at dinner)

Thank you, thank you!!

I had quite a hard time getting reservations at most places and I'm still 2 weeks out. I have reservations at Vidalia because it's a safe bet, IMO.

I was really hoping to get into Rasika but no luck there. oh well. next time!
