I'm dying laughing about the bless your heart side commentary.:appl:
@ceg @azstonie @LLJsmom

Sorry for all thus craziness @PierreBear

To answer the original question:

What did your diamond cost? How big?

A mean southern girl would probably say, "bless your heart, sugar, it probably cost more than yours! And it's for sure bigger!"

Atonement. ..

I am getting so much practical advice here! LOVE it.

Honestly, I just answer the carat size question. Usually it's being asked by people who are somewhat close to getting engaged and are trying to figure things out for themselves. I've never been asked cost, but would probably just say I don't know.

I've never been asked either question, but I've certainly wondered the size of some diamonds I've seen...although my time on PS is helping my "guesstimates" :lol-2:

I wonder if a lot of the time, those questions aren't necessarily ill-intentioned, but more out of amazement? Considering that most people go for big chain/"maul" jewelry, where small/poorly cut/low clarity diamonds are wildly overpriced, seeing a large AND well-cut diamond must be flabbergasting.

I have to admit I was one of those people that inadvertently blurted out something inappropriate. I knew nothing about diamonds at the time, so I thought my co-worker's milky diamond was cool and I said so. I still don't know much about diamonds, but I've learned enough to realize that I shouldn't have pointed out the milkiness.

Oh I've been asked these kind of questions.Standard answers I give:

"Is it real?" No, it's a hologram. Alternative: Do I look like I'd wear something unreal?

"How much did it cost?" Too much. Alternative: An arm and a leg.

Respond in milligrams.
There are 5 carats in a gram, so 1 carat is 200 mg.

My 1.5 carat diamond is 300 mg. :lol-2:

I have one family member who always asks "What did that cost? ". It's the first thing out of her mouth if it's a piece of jewelry or a pair of shoes. I've never had someone other than a very close friend ask anything regarding cost. I've been asked carat weight many times before and that never bothered me.

I never mind sharing size because I think it is helpful as size varies so much by stone and cut. With price it depends on how well I know the person and/or their intent. If I'm not comfortable sharing info I say something like I don't remember or I bought it so long ago it's irrelevant.

I am certain I've never been asked cost other than perhaps by one of my daughters! But size, maybe by close relatives...and I said around 2 cts. I don't care for it to sound any bigger than that. None of them have 2 ct stones and no one but me has upgraded! I haven't even worn the antique asscher ring around them!

But do you round up? Because Dancing Fire will want to know.

I have been asked many times by non-jewelry lovers and lovers alike. I always tell the weight. I don't share price. I had one friend press me on it over and over and I said if she really wanted to research and know, the internet will tell her. You can still see my stone on JBG's site.

If she wanted to know that badly, she can spend the time googling. If not, I'm not sharing.

I don't wear large diamonds on my hands so I usually get asked about what it is or is that a (name a common stone) If red I get asked if its a ruby, blue (no matter what color blue) I get asked if its a sapphire. Yellow and pink is a toss up. someone more knowledgeable might ask if its a sapphire but most assume yellow diamond, Green is Emerald. Purple, no matter how purple, and people assume its an amethyst usually.

Orange always throws folks for a loop...lol

Most everything else is assumed costume jewelry.

The general public is very ignorant about colored stones, and don't realize there's a lot of choice outside the maybe 5 or so they may know off hand....

I do recall someone saying in a stage voice, that my diamond earrings could not possibly be real:lol: Not like they're gigantic but there may be 'other' factors at play.

Close friends its different. My closest friends know I don't wear anything thats a "mystery metal" or "gemstone of unknown origin" They have very different assumptions however...

Frankly I'm ok to let people assume I wear fake jewelry.

I have had strangers grab my hand and ask if it is real with my larger piece.
Depending on the situtation though i have told people my diamonds are fake before.
I put on rings my family has seen before when I go to see them. They dont need to know what I have. They WOULD ask how much a new ring was . They think they are allowed to ask how much we make too . Smh . I just lie about that to them too.
Anyone who I think is going to be rude gets the "its a cz, but doesnt it look real? Its amazing how technology can make stuff look now a days"

I dont own any jewelery with any cz or otherwise stones but frankly its none of their business!
My friends who are nice people already know how many hours it took to find the stone, they dont have to ask. Very few people though care here so unless you have a huge ring on most people dont notice.

When asked, I would provide the spec of my significant pieces, such as my EC RHR, the studs and jackets, and my ID style bracket.

Never the cost.

DK :))

Ya'll are hilarious. Ok so when I brave the world one day with my upgrade, I feel fully prepared now.

"Oh bless your heart! *giggles* It certainly is a bit bigger than the original e-ring. Oh it's 600 mg as my friend Kenny has mentioned. Other ladies have mentioned that it's closer to 9 mm. Perhaps I'm not sure. You should get your DH to talk to my DH" hahaha... I guess I would twirl my hair around my fingers too and chew bubble gum?!

Thanks PSers!

Is it real?

It's as real as my hooters. Give them a honk and let me know what you think. Wocka-wocka!:confused2:

I should do this myself, lol! Some ppl already think I'm a bimbo, so I might as well do the whole act, hehe!

People ask but I never tell LOL. Might try "oh bless your heart honey that is such a sweet question" next time... :mrgreen2::lol-2::Up_to_something:
Normally I just say that I don't know. All my diamonds are gifts and it would have been rude of me to ask my DH for the price of a gift - yes? That shuts them up... :P2:lol::lol:

"It's fake and it cost $1. Thanks for asking!"

haha! One of my co-workers has what must be a 2ct. When people ask rude questions about cost, she looks them straight in the eye and says "Well, I don't know whose cold dead hand he pried it off of." It's fun to watch the nosy person recoil in horror. They drop the subject immediately.

How many carats is that?

A bunch. :rodent:

Over the course of the past few weeks, I have received compliments on my wedding ring & on my engagement ring, on the average, pretty much every day. Each time the compliment is paid, I think of this thread.
Today took the cake for me, when I met a new doctor, for the first time as a new patient.
I don't know about any of you, but when I talk, I talk with my hands quite a bit. I noticed during the first portion of our consultation, during her interview process, when she asked me about my medical history, and I was answering questions, her eyes seemed to fixate on my left hand as I spoke...lol!! I eventually tucked my hand between my knees, while I talked to her, in order to get her full attention...lol! It was something I had never experienced before, and I couldn't help but laugh on the inside at the spectacle that I saw in front of me.
I'm certain that she didn't say or ask anything about my diamonds because she did not want to appear unprofessional. I'm certain that if I captured the look on her face and the darting of her eyes, on video, she would be mortified...lol! It was like watching a cat follow a laser light across the wall or the floor...lmao!!
I'm certainly not going to complain; I'll take the compliment any time I can get it.
I just had to share! Anyone else experienced phenomenon such as this?
