Thanks to the help of whiteflash and the people here, I ended up with a spectacular engagement ring that my girlfriend, ahem, fiancee, loved. The problem is it ended up being about a half-size too large. Its white gold.

It sounds like a real pain in the ass to send this back to whiteflash and have it resized, especially since I would need to repackage it myself, and pay 60 dollars for round trip shipping. There are jewlers around here in Chicago that say they can easily bump a white gold band down a half size for 18 bucks.

I''m really leaning towards just having it done here since its quicker and easier. Would anyone recommenced against it?

won''t that void your WF warranty?

I forgot to mention, its a solitaire band, seems like it''d be easy enough...

Hi! Just saw the WF pics of your ring -- it''s beautiful! Congratulations on the engagement!

I don''t know if going with a different jeweler to resize will void any warranty you ahve with WF. If so, you probably shouldn''t do it.

As for resizing white gold, I believe it''s relatively simple, but you should definitely take it to a reputable jeweler in your area. Platinum is more difficult b/c it''s a harder metal and can get tricky (sometimes there will be a line where a ring has been sized).

Unless you have a local jeweler whom YOU have worked with and are very happy with their benchwork, I would just send it back to WF personally...

just FYI, this is what is on the WF website under FAQ for Lifetime warrany:

Every piece of jewelry we produce meets our strict standards for quality control. Though warranted, the normal examination period is an ideal time for you to become assured of the quality of the workmanship.

If you need to return an item after your purchase is complete it will be fully inspected. If it is found to be defective due to manufacturing we will cover the charges. However, if work is required due to wear and tear or after the item has been worked on by an outside jeweler (other than Whiteflash) you may incur a charge for the repair and shipping.

Work by an outside jeweler will void the lifetime warranty.

JMO, but it seems ridiculous to pay for the shipping, etc for a simple resizing. I would contact WF first to check the warranty thing, but otherwise, I would just go local.

I have a ring by WF as well and personally I wouldn''t trust anyone else to touch it. But I''m severely picky and have had issues with ring sizing in the past in addition to issues with vendors that are cheap but do shoddy work. Sometimes it''s worth it to spend the extra money.
