I have a e-ring with channel set diamonds - not an eternity band. I also have a wedding band with channel set diamonds on the front. The e-ring is a 6. My wedding band is a 6 1/4, and it is soldered to the e-ring now. So, I now need my platinum wedding ring set sized up a quarter of a size b/c it is too small.
Anyway, I went to one jeweler today, and he was going to charge me $166 to resize my ring. He was going to make it one ring... if that makes any sense. He also charged me based on how many diamonds were in my ring... including my center stone. I asked them about it, and they said that the diamonds might pop out of the channel when it is resized. Well, I left the ring, but I started feeling like I was getting ripped off. I called around, and another jeweler (in an upscale area, too) is going to resize it for $50. I expected to pay about $80.
What is going on here that two jewelers can be charging such a different price? The cheaper place is a very upscale place, so it''s not like it''s some shabby joint. Also, why would you have to worry about channel set diamonds getting loose when you''re only taking the ring up a quarter size???
Also, how much does it usually cost to have a loose center stone tightened? It seems that during my super glue disaster yesterday, I dropped my ring in the sink twice and must have loosened the stone.
Thanks!!
