Hi all,

I am so thrilled with my BG e-ring, and thanks to many of you for pointing me there and for helping me choose the setting. I have a picture here. It's a BG sig round brilliant in the Tapered Tiffany half-round. 1.268 carats, VS2 clarity, I color.

However even though I was just sized a few months ago, it is slipping around on my finger more than I am comfortable with. What do I do?? Send it back to BG, or have a reputable local jeweler handle it? I think a reduction by a quarter of a ring size would do it.

Just FYI the size is currently a size 7.

If you have a good local jeweler you should be able to have it sized just fine without the expense of shipping the ring back and forth. However, that will most likely void any warrantee that the ring comes with from Brian Gavin. You might speak with Brian before you make any decision.

He can discuss your options with you and help you reach an easier decision.

Also, does it get hot/humid in the summer months where you live? If so, you may want that extra 1/4 size for those months...

Thanks for your reply, Wink. We will definitely wait for what BG has to say.

Also it does get hot here...I guess I'm just not sure how snug the ring should be for safety reasons. I definitely do not want it falling off!

That will vary for each person. If you have a nice big knuckle it is easy, you struggle to get it on then it spins like crazy but it is safe. If you have little to no apparent knuckle, it can be scary as even a tiny bit of looseness can result in a missing ring. Fortunately most people are in the middle of these two extremes.

As was mentioned in a post above, people tend to swell at least a little in the summer, and shrink in the winter. I have also had many clients who swing back and forth with their monthly cycle as they either retain or shed water.

For these reasons I might suggest to you that you wear the ring for a month or two and be cognizant of how the ring fits during that time. It may be that being a quarter of a ring size too loose today is a quarter of a ring size too tight in two weeks. It may also be that you are one of the lucky ones who is the same size all of the time and that you really do need to tighten it up a tiny bit.

These things we will not be able to tell you. As for doing the actual work, again I suggest talking with Brian. He is good people and will give you good advice.

IF you do anything, get sizing beads. I suspect in a few weeks when we skip Spring and go right into holyshititshotalready you'll be glad you didn't resize. Another thing to consider...when you get married you'll be adding another ring to your finger. That will "push up" this ring a little and make it feel snugger than it is already.

I would only resize in the warmest part of the year. Plus an e-ring fits tighter once a wedding band is added, as Ame mentioned. I would definitely not size down a quarter size until you are wearing a wedding band. My e-ring is a quarter size too big and it is just not a big deal when worn with a wedding band. In the summer, it is more comfortable because it isn't too tight.
