Resizing Engagement ring, take off diamond?

I''m new to this and need some information. I plan on resizing a engagement which of course has the diamond set on it. It is currently at a size 4.5 but I need it to be a size 5. If I take it out to one of these diamond places to resize it, do they need to take off my diamond? I wouldn''t feel to good about the diamond being taking off during the resizing or can they resize the ring larger w/o taking off the diamond? It''s a plantnum band and the diamond is 1 ct. exactely.

I''m not quite sure what tyoe of ring you have. If it''s a solitaire ring they wont touch the diamond, just open the band at the back, however, if it''s a pave ring it most likely cant be resized unless there is a sizing bar. Any chance you could post a picture?

diamonds do not mind being heated. there is no reason to remove it
