So I popped the question and my fiancee is very happy with the ring. It''s just a little tight for her. It''s a size 4 solitaire 18K white gold setting that needs to be resized to about a 4.5.

I''ve read on here to avoid the chain store jewelers because they will just send it out. I purchased it on JamesAllen.com and they will do it for free, but it would make more sense to take it to a local jeweler who can size her on site and resize it within an hour. Instead of

I''m in the Little Rock, AR area so if anyone can recommend a jeweler where they can resize it on site, that''d be great.

Btw the the proposal was great. It was on Pinnacle Mountain just around sunset. If you''re in the Little Rock area, I would recommend going there for a great view and some nice hiking. Thanks in advance for the help.

Or should I just send it back to JamesAllen and let them do it right for free? But then it will be gone for about a week. My fiancee hates that idea.

It would be best to check with JA in case having the ring worked on voids any kind of warranty or guarantee if applicable, if not then you could have a local jeweller do it, I have had plain solitaires resized in hours so if doing so wouldn't hurt any guarantee then that is what you could do - but check with JA first to be safe.

Congratulations on your engagement.

Resizing a ring like that is generally not a very difficult or terribly expensive job but the best craftsmen will often have a line of work ahead of you. Choosing them based on their willingness to drop what they’re doing and do a rush job may not be in your best interest unless it’s a long commute to the store or some similar logistical concern that’s driving the decision. Most independent jewelers have a shop on site that is capable of doing this sort of work and usually they're fairly fast but asking for an hour turnaround is pushing the point. If it’s important to you to have the work done while you wait, consider calling ahead and making an appointment.

There a lot to be said for having the work done by the same people who sold it to you as this avoids the opportunity for fingerpointing later if a problem comes up and ‘free’ is hard price to beat but, at the same time, it’s nice to have a local jeweler who can trust to do your work for you in the future and a simple ring sizing is an easy way to test to see if you may want to patronize them in the future.

We've got pricescopers from all over the country and probably some from Little Rock but they may not see your question. Your chances of getting a referral to a local jeweler will go up if you start a new thread with your hometown name in the title.

Thanks for the advice, I''ll check with JamesAllen tomorrow about the warranty coverage if someone else does the resize.
