Hi all, I thought I''d post this as a separate topic since it was buried in my SMTR posting. I have my gorgeous new WF legato ring but for some reason, it''s too tight on my finger. I had them make it in a 4.5 which is what I''ve been wearing, but it''s tighter than I like it to be so I need to have it in a size 5 (I''m going to a B&M store today to be sized to be SURE).

One person said I should NOT have WF resize the ring--I should have them remake it in the right size. Is that ok to do? They made it in the size I told them, but it''s just too tight. Is there any danger in having them simply resize it? Does it affect the structural integrity of the ring at all?

Please give me feedback so that when I call Lesley on Monday, I''ll know what to discuss with her. By the way, the people at WF are just incredible for those of you who haven''t had the pleasure of dealing with them.

I don''t think there will be any problem with resizing it, but I would just ask them what the best bet is. I had them resize my ring from them and it''s been fine, but my ring was custom, so remaking it wasn''t reallly a feasible option for me.

Assuming they made the ring the correct size, (have the ring sized at the B&M too to find out for sure) then I would just have WF resize it as long as they say that will be okay for the setting.

Of course, if they sent you the wrong size ring, I would want a new one that was not sized up.

Resizing should be no problem. ESPECIALLY by the wonderful and skilled people at WF.

I would think re-sizing should be no problem.

Resizing your solitaire ring shouldn''t be a problem. I had my solitaire resized a few years ago from a size 3 to 3.5. I went a half size up, like you probably need, and there were no problems. WF didn''t resize my ring but I''m sure they would do a great job.

No offense, but if you ordered it in a 4.5 and they made it in a 4.5, I don''t know that they would be willing to give you a new setting since you''ve been wearing it. But I don''t really know.

Anything that''s a basic solitaire though should be no problem to resize a bit bigger.

Sizing it shouldn''t be a problem. Your only going up a 1/2 a size.

Brick and Mortar stores just love doing services for the people who buy online. No wonder independent jewelers are dropping like flys. People are buying inferior goods set overseas by unskilled workers making 3 dollars a day rather then going to their local jewelry store and buying a well crafted american product. It''s a shame people don''t understand that they are not getting a better value a lot of times just a less expensive product that i will end up seeing 5 years down the road for extensive repair work. Also many of the big named designers including tacori are made overseas and is not nice craftsmansip for the money they are charging. Please keep in mind that sales people are not there to cater to non customers.

WHOA. Where did this come from? There's nothing about the product being inferior here. It's the wrong SIZE which is the OP's fault. Give the online retailers a break, WF's goods are a lot better quality than a lot of things I see in B&M stores...

haha okay just a little rant. I''m saying don''t give the sales people a job without intent of doing business with them. I wasn''t impressed with what i personally saw on WF for the prices they were asking. Many of the mountings i saw were hollowed out and the setting work is horrible...channel set princess cuts shouldnt have gaps by the way!

No, WF made it the size I asked for which was a 4.5. But for some reason, maybe the style of the ring--it fits snugger than I like. I got sized today and I need a 4 3/4. Is it possible to have that size made? I have another ring that I had made in a 4 3/4, so I''m guessing WF can do that size no problem.

I agree about asking them to remake the ring, since they made what I ordered. That''s why I asked the question--because someone posted that I should ask them to remake it instead of resizing it.

A 1/4 size should be no problem at all for them. I would just call Leslie!

If they have a laser welder it will be noninvasive and there will be no seam with the sizing.

WF custom made my RHR a size 7 3/4 which is what I asked for, but after wearing it for a bit I decided it was way too loose so I had them resize it to a 7.5. I can tell you that they did an excellent job! I can not tell at all where the sizeing was done. I would suggest to have WF definately do the sizing for you. You will notbe disappionted!!

Are you guessing they sell hollowed out stuff from looking at pics?? Or have you actually had some WF pieces in hand to speak from experience??

From everything I''ve read on PS, all the Vendors here, WF included, supply really great quality merchandise.

H&Co,

I’m pretty sympathetic to the position of jewelers in American but it’s largely self-inflicted and rants like your make it worse. For starters, WF is a US jeweler selling largely US made merchandise. Not that this makes all that much difference, there are superb craftsmen overseas and some dreadful hacks working in the US. Good craftsmanship knows no borders and part of the job of a good retailer is to carefully choose which suppliers they will use and which they will avoid.

This original question was about sizing up a brand new platinum solitaire mounting and all advise given so far has been that Katiedid should go back to the store where she bought it and with whom she otherwise seems to be pleased to have the work done. Do you disagree with this? Based on your second post, can I presume that you agree that a skilled worker with the right tools can do this is modification with excellent results and without the need to replace the setting?

By the way, I know a fair number of B&M jewelers who do indeed love doing work for people who buy things online for the same reasons that the watch battery business is lucrative, even for watches they didn’t sell. Opportunity is what you make of it.

WF is making my size 4.75 as we speak.

Just wanted to confirm that they do make 1/4 sizes.

Very true, Neil!!

We moved to a new city and I''m still working on finding a jeweler I''m happy with. Mainly for routine maintenance, but also for new purchases.

I recently had a set of plat rings "unsoldered". The shop I took my rings to is one of the better shops in town. They have laser capability. They have artisans and smiths on site.

The work the people in the shop did on my rings was wonderful. No evidence the rings were ever soldered. Both rings cleaned and polished to a high sheen. All prongs were checked. No problems. I was very pleased with the work they did.

The gals I dealt with out front. Now that''s a whole different story. RUDE!! And the showroom floor was HOT!! Not uncomfortably warm. It was HOT!!

So I''m left to wonder,......... Will I return to that shop again or take my future business elsewhere.

good to know! thanks--I''m going to send it off in the next couple of days...
