I once had a ring which had been resized and then needed a new stone added to the existing two. When the ring came back it was unlike the original ring in its original size. The original had squared edges whereas the ring when repaired the edges were not so defined and the gold was a bit bumpy after the resizing job etc.
The ring was put away again by the mall store about two years later for some work and when the ring came back the shank had the squared edges like the original and in fact the manageress at the store commented that the ring looked like it was brand new but was the original ring.
The question is What did they do to it, would it has been done with a burnishing too or would it have been filed. The ring did not look any thinner in weight?
