Resetting a solitaire to match wedding band? who can do this?

I constantly read this forums and now I have a question of my own!
I have a solitaire princess cut, it is just under one carat. I went and picked out a channel set wedding band that is the same width as the band on the e ring....after lots of consideration i decided i may want to have the e ring reset to a wider band, with the channel set being narrower. I have seen it both ways and both look equally lovely but I think I prefer a wider e ring band with thinner wedding band. Do I have to go back to the jewelry store where the rings were purchased to do this? If I go elsewhere (we don''t live in the town they were bought in) will they think I am crazy asking to get a diamond reset there that I didnt buy there???

Also, does anyone have any pictures or personal opinions on this one way or another? I am so indecisive, and scared I will want to change again...this is my final reset I fear

You don't have to go back to where you purchased the rings if you prefer not to.

As long as you have insurance that will cover you in the event of damage during a reset, you should be fine to go anywhere. That, and be sure the jeweler/benchman is appropriately skilled.

If you don't, you need to confine your choices to those jewelers who will assume liability in the event of damage, which may or may not include your original jeweler.

Another option if you don't have insurance is to get a policy that will cover you during reset. I know that you can do this through Jewelers Mutual by providing a receipt or appraisal for both the diamond and the setting you intend to use and submit both. They will ensure it as a whole piece, and it will be covered during the reset.

Thanks! I do have a rider on my St. Farm homeowners insurance for the jewelry-I''m not sure if this covers reset or not. I could ask the place where I go, I just didnt know if that was standard practice or not-or if the new place I went to would be kind of annoyed at me!

I am just so torn as to which style I like....what is your favorite look with a solitaire and/or channel set wedding band?

I had my original diamond reset 2x by 2 different jewelers. I don''t think you need to worry at all about getting a new setting. you do want to be sure your diamond is covered during the process.

Thanks! That makes me feel better....it''s just much easier to do it local but i didnt know if that was protocol....Then will I need to get a new appraisal to the ins. after it is reset?

I would.

About switching jewellers, you should use whoever is best suited for the job (in your $$$).

There are several reputable jewelers in our area, where the ring was purchased is about 3.5 hours away so it''s kind of a pain! It was not my choice, obviously, to purchase it there, although it is a lovely diamond

I think I will go visit with someone local...Does anyone know of someone who has a wider band solitaire with a narrower channel set band? Do they sit flush, or do most of the e ring bands taper off inthe back? The channel set band has no curve in it, nor do i want it to. I won''t wear it alone a lot, but I''d like to have that option. I have seen several sets where they are the same width and know that some prefer it, but haven''t seen a lot where the solitaire band is thicker!
