My RB is currently in a 6-prong Tiffany-like setting similar to this:

http://www.superbcert.com/Shop_By_Product/Jewelry_Details.cfm/P/8260/N/2;10

It''s been in this setting for 10 years (My DH proposed May 2, 1998). I''m waiting for a Tacori setting (2620)

http://www.tacori.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=SRCH&Product_Code=2620RDLGP&Category_Code=&Store_Code=TACORI&Search=2620&offset=0&filter_cat=&PowerSearch_Begin_Only=&sort=&range_low=&range_high= &srch_code=1

and eternity band to come in. So, here''s my question ... when my local jeweler (an authorized Tacori retailer) removes my diamond to reset it in the new setting, is it possible that there will be marks/chips from where the 6-prongs were?! I always remove my ring before showering, sleeping, gardening, swimming, etc... I guess I don''t have an understanding of how the prongs "hold" the diamond in place, so could someone explain it to me and let me know if the chances are pretty good that it will be in good shape for my new setting? DH told me I was nuts for worrying, but I thought I''d run it by the experts here at PS.

I tried doing a search on the board, but wasn''t sure what I should be searching under, so if this topic has been covered before, I apologize and if someone could link me to any threads, I''d appreciate it!

no, don''t worry. a diamond is much harder than the metal that is used to hold it in.

Many of us have had stones reset, and no, the prongs do not damage the diamond in any way (unless the setter damages the diamond while setting it).
