I purchased a pinky purple spinel off eBay last year. The purchase included some diamond and spinel earrings. I eyed the ring forever as spinel rings don’t come up often on eBay - but the photos were terrible so it took me a while to convince myself to pull the trigger.
Here is one of the listing photos.

When she came I was pleasantly surprised. The stone on the ring (not as much in the earrings but those were extra anyways lol) was vivid and bright. Well cut. The setting was clearly a conversion as the ring head was a pendant in a previous life. Either way. I knew she was a keeper.

I had planned to reset it eventually but the setting wasn’t terrible for a while I left it as is.
I finally sent it to dk with a completely different idea. I had planned a lot of metal floral designs in tri color gold. But a number of lovely ladies pointed out it was a bit “black hill gold” and we went a different direction.
After unsettling the stone it turned out to be 3.67 cts. I sold the setting and I kept the earrings as they are quite cute when I load my ear up with gold.
After selling the setting- the spinel was essentially free.
Here are a few iterations of my cad- as I think it helps people to see the process. I messed with the shank a bit to get exactly the petal design I was after. I also couldn’t decide between e/w and n/s. I decided on e/w
This was the first idea

The initial idea

The finished idea

I received the final photos today. I will share in a SMTB thread when she’s home. The stones are set in his antique 18k gold to match my antique 22ct band and the halo stones are old cuts totaling 1.76 cts
