I inherited a cocktail ring from my Grandmother which is attractive but too large for my taste and the scale of my hands. The ring has 28 small RBs and a badly cut 4pt RB, all I or J. I expect to become engaged soon and would like a very well cut 1 c. solitaire in a simple setting for an ering. I would also like to reset my Grandmother's diamonds into a channel set eternity band for my wedding ring. I live far from a major city, so an internet purchase is an attractive idea, but I'm not sure how to solve certain issues without being able to try on. How do I find a channel setting that will fit the existing stones and sit flush with a solitaire? Is there a internet retailer who will work with me to reset my stones, or do they prefer to sell only bands with the stones already included? Will a higher color solitaire make the Is & Js look yellow?

I really think you should consider a local jeweler to do custom work like this. I can''t see that it would be advantageous to use one of these vendors since you are providing the diamonds. And escpecialy if there were maintenance issues, you really need someone local. You really wouldn''t "find" a setting; you''d take the ring to a jeweler and ask him to show you the settings that could accommodate your stones. I think if it were me, I''d just buy a new eternity band for my wedding ring, so the color and quality of the stones could be matched to the e-ring. I''d do something like make diamond huggie (or hoop) earrings with the little diamonds from your grandmother''s ring.
