Request opinions on this 2.51 RB V2 G color stone please....

I apologize for the incessant cries for help. I am spending a good sum for an engagement ring, so I want to make sure I make the right purchase.

This one gets an HCA score of 1.5, although the cut grade is just very good by GIA. I am a bit concerned with the symmetry grade of only good. Also, the stone is a bit shallow, but it gets a very big spread though which is a plus for me.

Oh my gosh! That is a flat top stone! Do you want a big spread and a stone that is likely to chip? Seriously, that is the kind of stones you seem to be looking at. You are spending a lot of money and I just can't imagine not getting a high cut quality stone.

Please stick with around 34-35 for the crown angle! Even a little less would be okay. But 29??? Yikes!

Also, no picture of the stone and no copy of grading report. They don't list anything for the girdle.

yes I would start with GIA Ex or AGS0 and then go from there!

The numbers posted above were enough to rule it out, but the girdle was okay. I would never buy a diamond with a 29 crown angle and I also wouldn't buy one with "good" for symmetry. That needs to be excellent, preferably, but very good at minimum.

You will need to go down in size to get a decent G color stone, unless you go down to something like SI2 in clarity, and that is difficult in large stones because many won't be eyeclean.

I personally wouldn't go lower than H, but that H stone is very nice. Ideal cut stones are going to face up whiter than a stone with poorer cut, too.

Even though the HCA is 1.5, you wouldn't even consider it? The two you posted have lower color though. I really want at least G color. My budget is about 35k.

The HCA assumes perfect symmetry and only takes into account rounded averages. As such the HCA is really only relevant for stones with at least very good symmetry.

I check the HCA on your diamonds

Factor Grade
Light Return - Excellent --> This is the main criteria, you want highest reflection, this one has no refraction

Fire - Very Good --> At this size its going to Bling!

Scintillation - Very Good --> this is to do with Luminescence, the Fluorescence has makes more impact on this. Condidering your Fluorescence is none, you are good.

Spread or diameter for weight - Excellent --> Light Return is Excellent with more spread, this is more to do with table and depth. I think your table - 57 is perfect for big stone.

Apart of this, your concerns about GIA grading it very good. This might just have missed Excellent Grade by a hair. HCA 1.5 say a lot more than just EX, VG, G.... There are many stones graded VG by GIA which look too good and some EX which wont be as good.

For the price, I think its hard to get a better stone. Its a good stone to buy.

How you end up talking about the table when you're in the Spread category, I do not know. And other things you said I think are also not accurate. Maybe Garry can help.

Umm, and NO, I am NOT a fan of deep stones or small table stones. I am a fan of ideal cut stones, actually.

Optical symmetry is most likely off. But whether the difference in person is noticeable or not is debatable. Whether you actually like the look of a stone with more optical symmetry is also a question only you can answer.

Because I use the PriceScope Search tool for in-house stones, and I choose the ones that happen to fit the parameters of the buyer. My interest is in seeing them get the best quality stone for their money. I can't help it that WF has a larger in-house inventory of rounds than others. I checked one from High Performance Diamonds which looked excellent but when I went to their site, it said SOLD. I checked one from James Allen and it had inclusions that might not be eyeclean and was I color, and the closest Good Old Gold had was just over 2 cts. There were 2 remaining from WF that were close to his budget with an excellent cut. Those were the two I posted.

i agree...ain't no way i'm gonna buy a 12% flat top stone...

The very long 85% lower girdles are not my preference with that shallow crown deep pavilion combo (those lower girdles work better with FIC stones).
It also means the stone will not have as much fire as many other stones, although it will appear very white bright.
The good sym can be a worry as DS and others pointed out.

DiamondGuru I don't think DS is a schill. You are rather new here - perhaps you have a lot of experiance as a consumer or you are a dealer (in which case you must register as a trade person).

Thanks, Garry, I was hoping you'd stop in! I'd say after 6 years you probably know I don't work for any of these vendors. I'd have a heck of a bigger diamond collection if I did!

Inhouse diamond are good options over virtual inventory, but do you realize how much data you are missing out on. There are more than 700,000 diamonds traded and you are looking at a small pool of maybe 50,000 at the max. somethings you have to look out of the box to find a good solution

Hi DG - the inhouse stones are stones that vendors decided to commit their hard earned dollars to buy because they liked the stone. By an large they are way better than a lot of the 'whats left' in B2B stones. Remeber too that many of the better stones never actually make it on to B2B platforms because they are sold first or even presold.
