I've purchased a 2.59 H VS1 round brilliant diamond (approx 43k) - having done quite a bit of research before making this purchase, it would be comforting to get any opinions or feedback from the experts on this forum. I do have the ability to return the stone if not completely happy with it.

I've pasted below the details of the stone - in my search, I was looking for a stone with diameter at least 8.8mm, H or better, VS1 or better, Excellent cut, keeping in mind value as well. The minor questions that I have on the stone are in regards to:

1) the cut quality (based on the angles)
2) table size (I recognize that 59 is a little larger than what most people seem to suggest, but also received input that a 59 table would make the stone look a little larger and I was fine with this)
3) girdle is not faceted

I am happy with the purchase and will look at it more closely once I receive, but any thoughts/ feedback would be very much appreciated - reinforcement that I made the right choice would be great, but also want to make sure that there isn't something that I overlooked. Thank you.

I think the numbers look fine. We always recommend getting an idealscope image if you can, but if you can't then you just have to decide if you like it visually. I do want to comment, though, that the table size has nothing to do with how large the stone looks...it's the diameter that determines how large the stone appears face up regardless of whether the table size is 54 or 60.

Congrats! We'd love to see pictures!

Thank you for the reply and the clarification on diameter vs table size.

While I have not received my purchase yet, I have read additional postings on this forum and was hoping to get feedback or comments on some lingering questions that I have (also keeping in mind that the stone can be returned if I am not completely satisfied).

The details of the stone are indicated in my original posting - I ran an HCA and the stone scored a 2.7, which seems a little low. While my intent is to keep this purchase within a certain budget range, an important objective was to find an amazing stone that she would be truly happy with.

1. My purchase has a table size of 59 - do you think I should have chosen a smaller table? My understanding is that a smaller table would also provide more fire.
2. Given the HCA score of 2.7 and taking into consideration the stone's details (cut, dimensions, angles, etc), should I look for better cut and performance?
3. Would it make sense to go up to G color?
4. Should I be concerned that the girdle is not faceted?

When I started my search, I was looking for a stone with diameter approx 8.8mm-9.0mm (range of approx 2.5 to 2.7 carats - do not want to go larger than this), H or better, VS1 or better, Excellent cut, and keeping in mind value as well. Unfortunately, the universe of stones available that fit these criteria are a relatively small population.

I would very much appreciate any feedback or suggestions - based on my search criteria, what stones would you have recommended to me, keeping pricing less than approx 48-50k as I don't feel I need to necessarily pay a premium for DEF color, or extremely high clarity? I have continued to look through the inventory at Whiteflash, James Allen, Blue Nile, but everything is starting to look quite similar at this point.

Perhaps these are all minute differences and I am now over-thinking things, but it is such an important purchase for me, I'm a little anxious and concerned that I may have missed the boat in my decision and would appreciate any feedback or opinions from the experts on this forum.

Thank you again.

1. My purchase has a table size of 59 - do you think I should have chosen a smaller table? My understanding is that a smaller table would also provide more fire.

I try to stick to 54-58, but realistically, there is not a whole lot of visual difference in a 57 or 58 with a 59, so I would not eliminate the stone just because of the 59 table. The larger table does let more light in and can make the stone appear brighter. I find that my stone is more often in that lighting situation than in one with fire. And for the record, I have seen no difference between my stones that had 56 and 58 tables.

2. Given the HCA score of 2.7 and taking into consideration the stone's details (cut, dimensions, angles, etc), should I look for better cut and performance?

You may can find it, but in larger stones they will be more rare. Stones in the 2-3 range on the HCA can be fine.

3. Would it make sense to go up to G color?

If you found the right stone and didn't go over budget, sure. I love G color but it will run the price up in a stone this size. I am really not seeing a G or H that is much better than the one you have.

4. Should I be concerned that the girdle is not faceted?

I know that some are not faceted, but I am not aware of any concerns. I think all mine have been faceted, though. What does it say?

This is the only stone I see now worth considering but it is SI1 and you may prefer to stick with VS (which I personally would). It has a high crown, though, so it will be more of a fire stone. The slight leakage won't be detectable to the eye because the stone has AGS Ideal light performance.

diamondseeker2006: Thank you for the detailed reply.

The ACA diamond from Whiteflash that was suggested by both you and Stone-cold11 is the one stone that I have been thinking about in comparison to the one that I have purchased - this ACA stone would end up being approx 5k more in price than my purchase, with one grade higher color (G vs H), one grade lower in clarity (VS2 vs VS1), presumably better cut as it is an ACA, and pretty similar diameter size.

Do you think the ACA is the way to go compared to the stone that I've purchased (even with the additional 5k cost), or do you think the cut quality of my purchase is sufficient? The HCA 2.7 when I entered my stone details is a little concerning still.

Also, I've purchased the stone in a setting - do you think this is a mistake and I should be looking at the loose stone to ascertain cut quality?

Not certain if these concerns that I have will even be noticeable in the end product (and if I'm getting caught up in the "numbers" too much?).

Thank you for any feedback/comments.
