Do you guys/gals know of any reputable jewelers in the Boston area?

I''ve had good experiences with Harper and Faye, in the Financial District - right around the corner from Government Center. Quite patient and friendly, even with someone at the *very* low end of their customer scale

. They graciously took my diamond even though I didn''t buy it from them (they deal Lazare Kaplan diamonds). They also offer custom services. Not a large shop - just the owners (husband and wife team) and another long-time salesperson.

Are there any good jewelers in the Boston Jewelers Building?

I used to work in the jewelry business part-time. The job was literally to provide me with money (and a discount) to replace my stolen and sadly uninsured jewelry. When my tastes started getting too rich (even with the discount, LOL), I regretfully quit. My boss was a wonderful man named Harry Laskin. He is with Long''s Jewelers at their new downtown Boston location. When I got engaged last August, my fiance and I went to him for my engagement ring. I''ve since moved to California, but I''m still working with him for my wedding band. He''s a great guy that has been in the business for years - and he is completely trustworthy. In case you''re interested, here''s the info:

Long''s Jewelers is highly respected and they have beautiful jewelry! Next time I go to Boston I plan on visiting their new store. They are one of the top notch jewelers in this area.

check out Hefez and Sons in the diamond building.. EXTREMELY nice people that do great work. I brought in my diamond there to get set with one of their rings and it turned out to be a great experience..they came highly recommended from quite a few sources... obviously check out others too but def check out hefez and sons

E.B. Horn on Washington St. at Downstone Xing has a good reputation. A friend of mine got her ering there and was very happy with their service.

I forgot to mention the Long''s in Natick was where I saw a Royal Asscher with my own eyes. Beautiful! Not very many jewelers sell them but they are absolutely a sight to see!!

While E.B. Horn carries a lot of lines, I found them to be unorganized and overly pushy. I will be the upteenth person however, to highly recommend Longs. I have been to several of their stores (not the Boston one - yet), and prefer the Burlington location as it seems to have the largest selection. The people are helpful and patient regardless of which store you visit. I worked with Joe Kurker and would recommend him. He is the assistant manager at Burlington, very knowledgable, and was fantastic at keeping me updated on the status of my ring while it was being built at Tacori.

Also Alpha Omega at the Pru and in Cambridge and, Lux, Bond & Green on Boylston Street - and I actually wasn''t crazy about Long''s . I have a ruby/diamond ring from them but for diamonds I wasn''t thrilled with what they had in stock. But they have been around for a while and have a good reputation, that''s for sure. Also don''t discount Shreve''s. I spent a LOOONG time at their Chestnut Hill store a couple of weeks ago looking at stones and there was no rush, no pressure, and the gentleman that was helping me was happy to ''chat diamonds'' and show me everything even though he knew I wasn''t buying that day. And their prices were not as high as you would think, either. (I still don''t want to pay that premium, but it was fun to look!)

In the Jeweler''s Building Barmakian Brothers are supposed to be good, but they''re always busy, busy, so it''s good to get an appt. But people I know who deal with them are very happy with their work, and their jewelry in general.

Good luck!

As for Long''s, I should have clarified that I didn''t look at diamonds there as I already purchased a SuperbCert and was only looking at settings. Shreve Crump on Boylston is a great and VERY LOW pressure place, though wasn''t impressed with the selection of channel set platinum rings and thought their stone prices were high - $16K for a 1.6 G/VS1 Princess with only a GIA report available. However, their settings were actually cheaper than the Tacori I ended up going with at Long''s.

How about Robinsons in the Boston Jewelers Building?
