Does anyone else work for a large company, that uses mass-email "mailboxes" to disburse information to large groups....

And then when one idiot accidently sends to this "mailbox", there are then HUNDREDS of replies asking why they received the email since it doesn't apply to their accounts?!?!

Why create an application that requires us ALL to become victims of Idiots!

... I can assure you that not one of them took the time to see that they were not specifically sent the email, it was indeed sent by accident, and the original sender was not trying to include you!

Vent over.

Agreed lol

I know my cousin and sisters were once discussing something about my sister over email. Well they forgot to exclude my sister''s email out from their group email and my sister saw EVERYTHING they were saying about her....needless to say, she was not happy.

holy moly!

What''s even worse, is that the mailbox this girl accidently sent to, is one of our International ones that our Trade Group uses to inform the entire company about daily trade restrictions... so when I come into work tomorrow, there will be a hundred more fromm our European offices, where the employees who left their offices only hours ago, won''t be back in for another 10 hours

YES! It SUCKS. A few times now groups have spammed the graduate email list at the school I attend. Which is a HUGE school.

Then HUNDREDS of people reply to the message asking to be removed from the list. And NO ONE reads the few responses where people explain that it doesn''t help to do that, to instead use the unsubscribe link at the bottom, etc.

You''d think that thousands of people who are at a top school to get graduate degrees would be smarter than that.

Drives me batty.

NF- It is indeed baffling!

What''s funny is when you see someone you know send one of the emails. My an ex boss sent one of the 52 email replies this morning, lol. I nearly fell out of my chair.

E-mail can be a PITA. It bugs me when the person who sends out a company/group wide e-mail, then sends out another company wide e-mail apologising for the first. As if that makes it less annoying

. We know you messed up, we don't need to know that you know; just suck up the mistake. Don't send another mail!

Even worse, is the annoying know-it-all who sends a reply back to the whole company saying 'oh Mavis, you meant to send this only to Groups A-C. Just letting you know, thanks.' Arg. Smartie-pants.

You know though, in this situation it would have been better if the woman had sent a second email immediately. All the people replying think that they need to be taken off of the distribution list, as opposed to just being told, "Hey, this went to the wrong group. Sorry."

Everyone is supposed to be on the distribution list, it is the email that was sent to the wrong place.

And yes, the "Know it all''s"... I could copy a few from this morning. We had a bad one that last almost an entire day over a year ago, must have been over 150 emails by the end, and some people started getting very snarky with their replies to replies, and unknown to everyone else, the CEO was on the distribution list... a few of them were fired.

I HATE when people do that!! It''s like if you read the email at all, it would be obvious that it shouldn''t have been sent to you. So freaking ignore it!!!

Even better are the people who "reply to all" asking the original replier not to "reply to all"!

Meresal, this happens at least once of week where I work. People just aren''t that sharp.

When I was teaching I actually found it quite amusing when our new principal, who was a bit of a dofus and I really didn''t like, would email the entire staff about seriously private matters that should have only gone to the assistant principals. He did this almost daily.

Once I got an email from the district office about some meeting time being changed. I had no idea what the email was in reference to, so I thought it was that kind of accident, but I looked at the other addressees, and I was the only one on the list that wasn''t a member of the district office. Still have no idea how I got on that list, and I had to email the sender a very awkward email saying that I was pretty sure I got it by mistake.

...just read the rest of the responses and can''t stop giggling. I had no idea this happened other places.

I''m always surprised when I see someone I''m sure knows better is one of the responders!

Crap....it ate my post...grrrr.

I think they should teach entire courses around proper use of email. It''s almost as if people get it backwards. They reply to all in situations where they shouldn''t, or don''t reply to all in situations where it is crucial to do so. It is especiall frustrating to me when I specifically state to reply to all, but the recipient doesn''t...thus creating more work for the team.

Another pet peeve is when someone forwards an email to me when I was one of the original recipients. Why don''t people look at this stuff???

I hear ya sista.

I am so sorry.

Miracles- I am in complete agreement that email education courses should be given at every hiring session!

Re: Forwarding email that I have already received...
My new boss does this. The worst part is, he doesn't forward them immediately... he forwards them from 2 days after initial receipt up to a week later, so I end up trying to figure out where the issue is, only to realize I have already done it.

Hahahahaha....that too!

Reply To All drives me crazy.

Our most recent episode was when a coworker sent an email to the entire office distribution list about her visit to the gynecologist after her hysterectomy. Clearly it was an accident, but one of our other coworkers did a reply to all with some smart comment. It was embarrassing all around!

I think email education/etiquette would be an excellent mandatory class for everyone!

It is happeneing AGAIN!

I even wrote the guy to tell him that he messed up and to send out another email asking everyone to DISREGARD. The coward won't do it!

We are up to 20 in 10 minutes.

It can be a problem. I have to laugh at the idiots that reply to all for something like - congratulations for a promotion - then 20 people reply to all and tell them to quit replying to all.

... and it is is happening again... SAME mailbox.

I work with idiots.
