Hi,

I would love any suggestions from the experts out there!!

I have a beautiful sapphire and diamond e-ring in a high claw setting. Although I love my ring, I have always desired a big centre diamond, thus am looking at replacing the centre stone.

The sapphire is a 2.00 ct emerald cut with a 0.3 ct princess cut diamond either side. What shape diamond could I use? I love the cushion, asscher cuts, but would a emerald cut diamond be the most suitable??

I would appreciate it if anyone could post their photoes of any rings similar??

Thankyou for any help offered!!!

I saw a round once w/princesses; let see if I can find the link. I can't find it. A princess center stone would make a beautiful 3 stone ring.

thanks Skippy!!!

yes i thought a princess, but I want to keep the same setting, so thought a emerald cut or similar would be required as the measurements would enable the stone to fit straight back into the setting??

Thanks again!

I'm obviously going to say a cushion, but I'm biased.

The only thing is, I don't know how that would look with princess sides....I don't think it would look right, could be wrong though!
Perhaps you could get a 2ct cushion with a higher ratio for the center stone, and then grab a couple of square cushions for the sides? A 3-stone cushion.....YUMMYYYYY!!!!!

Or you could just get an emerald cut diamond for the center and keep the princesses..
But if you want an asscher I'd make sure that your setting can hold it since it's so square. An asscher with asscher sides.....OH MY LORDY.

Have you thought about a radiant with asscher sides?

I'm drooling all over my keyboard, btw.

Can you post a picture of your ring for better feedback?

hi again

thanks for the tips!! I LOVE the asscher and cushion cuts which is why I suggested them!!!

I would prefer to keep the princess cut stones to reduce costs.....I am at work but home in a few hours so I will take a photo of my e ring and post it then for you all to look at!!!

I really appreciate all feedback, thanks again and chat soon!

In that case, I would possibly most-likely think that an asscher would be a better looking center-stone. I''ll keep looking!

Is moremoremore''s side stones cushions as well???

Yes, isn''t it sooooo pretty??

darn it! I''m having a hard time finding any more rings with princess sides (without princess center stones). Anyone out there wanna help?

bugaboo--we have some pretty talented photoshop people on this forum...you could always start a new thread with "photoshop" in the title to get their attention. They may be able to help you envision what a cushion would look like with princess sides, or any of the other combinations. I''ll keep looking though!!

Oh luckstar , thankyou so much for looking!!!

Its hard I know, I have been all over the net looking for a 3 stone ring with princess sidestones, that doesnt have a centre princess cut diamond!!!

hi again,

i have attached a picture of my ring - hope it worked!!!!!

Judging by prongs, it looks like that setting is meant for a stone with sharp corners. I think your best bet would be a radiant or emerald, unless you want to put extra money into having someone change them for you.

ETA: Actually, wait....I can't really tell. Are the prongs shaped like little pockets that the corners can fit snugly into? (Is snugly a word?! lol)
Or are the prongs just regular ole prongs? If they are regular prongs you can get away with a shape other than a radiant or emerald.

hi again

the prongs look very snugly into the sapphire, so not sure if they are regular prongs or not....i will post a new thread for some other pics like you suggested.

What would you expect to pay for a radiant/emerald/cushion/asscher of good color say G/H and VS? Is one cut more expensive than another??\

Thanks again for the help!!

You''re right-- that is a beautiful sapphire! Is the plan for it to find a new home in a pendant?

BTW, I hope it''s okay that I ask this, but since I think I sense a lot of excitement about a new diamond combined with qualifying comments about incorporation of old elements, are you hoping to incorporate the sidestones and possibly existing setting more for sentimental or financial reasons? (Don''t worry, there''s total acceptance on this site no matter which answer.

Hmmm... of course, it''s hard to tell much from a photograph, but something jumped out at me. If you''re looking for a G/VS fancy cut 2 carat diamond, a rough estimate is that your center stone will likely be priced between 15K and 20K from an internet vendor, and more from a B&M. (It would be less if you''re comfortable going down to SI1 or even a well-selected SI2, assuming you don''t have your heart set on a step-cut stone like an Asscher or Emerald.) Once you''re looking at a 5-figure sum, it might be worthwhile to have an appraiser identify the color/clarity of your sidestones before proceeding any further if the reason you''re thinking of using them in your reconstituted ring just to save money. For instance, it''s not uncommon for pre-set sidestones to be in the SI range or even lower, and if they turned out to be, say, I colored and SI1, the value of the diamonds might be around 400-500 each. And if it''s just the concept of saving $$ that''s keeping you attached to incorporating the side princesses, you might be adding a restriction for something that might be a difference in less than 5-8% of the total project cost. Of course, if sentimentality is the main reason for incorporation, then they should be incorporated.

It''s all about enjoying the process until you wind up with your dream ring, after all! I''m a huge fan of 3-stone rings myself, and I''ve seen some great versions on this site. There are some amazing rings for inspiration, and if you haven''t had a chance to go the monster Forum Engagement sticky thread at the top of "Show me the ring" for inspiration, I suggest you go over and take a look... and bring a handkerchief to help wipe up the drool.

Hi

In answers to your queries .......Yes, I wish to keep the side stones as I will have no use for them otherwise, and my hubbie wants me to keep "something" from the original e-ring!! The sidestones are H, VS1.

As for the sapphire, I have no idea what to do with it........a pendent would be nice wouldnt it!!!!!

My local jewellery did have a quick look and said an emerald cut diamond of around 1.5ct would fit into the centre well.....I really didnt realize that I would be looking at 15-20K!!!

I will keep looking and thankyou I will search PS for some designs, as for drooling I HAVENT STOPPED YET!!!

Cheers for the great advice!!

LOL, don''t throw in the gauntlet yet. If the size is 1.5 rather than 2.0 carats, the good news is that the cost will be quite a bit less. H tends to be noticeably less expensive than G. Heck, elongated princesses are sometimes less expensive than square ones because of supply and demand if you were to go that way. (For instance, http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/diamonds/11369931 has an AGS cert, is 10 mm long, 1.7 carats, and about $8600.)

But then again, you probably didn''t need someone to point this out. When you wrote, "I will keep looking and thankyou I will search PS for some designs, as for drooling I HAVENT STOPPED YET!!!", it''s probably a good bet that you''ve gotten The Bug.

Whoa! I had no idea there was such thing as elongated princesses! I wonder what that looks like in real life?

Thankyou Fleur de lis and luckystar for all your comments and help!!

I''m not sure what to do as yet.....but i LOVE the cushions and asschers and sick of drooling at them on PS!!!! It makes me sooooo excited!!!

I will let you know on what I decide!!!
