Replace the shank or reset diamond in another setting?

I have been lurking and finally got up the nerve to post in other forums. Everybody here is so helpful so I was wondering what you think would be a better option. I bought the two diamond rings on eBay in the last week for a really good price and I found the little gold bands at a consignment shop. The solitaire reminds me of my MIL's ring with the little diamond embedded in the band and it's kind of nice to have a reminder of her to wear but the band is a bit flat and boring. The band is split in the back so I took it to the jeweler and he said that they can and a half shank since the band is only thin in the back. Because of the thinness in the back the two little scalloped bands I found have a gap between them that I don't like. I had to use them because the solitaire kept getting stuck in the creases between the the bezel band and wouldn't stay in the middle.

So my question is should I pay the $250 to have the half shank or would it look better with the 5 stone ring if I got a plain setting. Sorry for the

I'm sorry my 4 year old hit the button on my iPad. I was saying sorry for the bad photos and diamonds could use a cleaning. But just wandering what you gals thought.

Also can you tell me what is the best way to clean them? And how do you measure the diamond? By the sides or just measure the table in millimeters?

Thanks in advance for you suggestions.

I think the way you are wearing the rings right now looks very pretty, so I would probably re-shank the solitaire. But, that said, you don't sound like you're too thrilled with the setting of the solitaire, so you could certainly reset it if you wanted. I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend right now, because a new setting will run more than $250.

Can't help too much with the measurement question, a jeweler could probably measure the stones for you, or you could try a ruler for the mm measurement.

As for cleaning, I really like getting my rings professionally cleaned by a jeweler, then keeping up with them with jewelry cleaner. Although lately I've been using Windex multi-surface with vinegar - I spritz the ring, gently use a soft toothbrush to just wipe the diamonds a little and then rinse really well under hot water, then gently pat dry with a paper towel. I'm really happy with how sparkly and bright my stone looks!

eta: forgot to add I love your new rings! The 5 stone is very cool! :sun:

You could also consider wearing the five stone ring on your right hand and the solitaire on the left with a plain band. You might like them better on two separate hands.

As for cleaning, you can also use the tried and true method of soaking them in Dawn dishwashing liquid and warm water. You can use a baby toothbrush to clean gently around the stones, rinse very well, and dry. Should be pretty and sparkly!

Your rings are pretty and you might want to take them to a jeweler for stone measurement and a good cleaning. Then it will be easy enough to keep up with at home!

Junebug and MissGotRocks, Thank you so much. I really do like the solitaire setting, it's just a little dull from wear and it has a weird kind of a satin finish. I'm thinking maybe the jeweler could polish the whole band when they replace the shank and give it a little more shine. I really love the prongs, they are a bit heavy but they have this pretty diamond cutting that makes the ring sparkle from the sides.

The five stone band, I got for a steal on eBay for $105. It has a carbon spot but I can live with it. I really like the bezel setting, but wasn't sure how it would look with the prong set solitaire. I got the solitaire for $40 eBay and the little bands for $10. The solitaire was shot in the dark, as it was advertised as a 14K ring with a stone in it. But the photos of the stone made me think it could be real. So I figured I'd go for it. I had it tested at Kay's and they said it was real. I couldn't believe it :D

Thanks again ladies for being so kind. You have been very helpful. I think I will go with the half shank.
