Replace center stone or keep in sapphire target engagement ring?

Does this look right or does it beg for a larger center stone?

Background: upgraded setting of .42 carat diamond on our 14th anniversary. The setting called for a 1 carat round (see pics), but the jeweler was able to set my original diamond which is a family heirloom.

I’m just not sure it looks right? DH says to just buy the diamond if I want. Am I overthinking this?

My .42 is g vs1 excellent cut and I’d likely have to sacrifice cut or clarity to get a 1 carat in my budget $5k ish)

Would love expert opinions on this. Thank you in advance!!

I don't think the difference is wildly apparent. Anyone looking at the lovely ring on your hand wouldn't think anything amiss. And I love you were able to use a family heirloom diamond.

Your ring looks gorgeous! The combination of the diamond with the blue stones really makes it stand out. The .42 carat seems to be well-proportioned within the setting, giving it a nice vintage feel. If you love the sentimental aspect and how it looks, I’d say it’s perfect as is! But if you’re craving a bit more sparkle and presence, going for a larger stone could definitely elevate it. Ultimately, it’s about what feels right for you!

Thank you for your thoughtful responses! I’ve mostly seen the Diamond elevated slightly above the halo in these settings and that’s what I cannot get out of my head. It is a sentimental stone, but if I replace it - I’d just save it for my daughter.
