Anyone know if its possible to fix a huge crack, er uh, feather in an old European cut diamond? I inhabited a ring so there is some sentimental value. I know its not worth much but can something like this be fixed for a reasonable price? I have read about fracture filling but it sounds like something only for sales and not really a repair technique for the general public.

I dont know what to do with this, its probably about 100 years old, cuts rough, huge feather, some yellow tint about .8 carat. It cant be worth anything right? Probably cant be re-cut. I know filling lowers the value but what do I have to lose anyway if I just keep it for myself? It's glaring even without my glasses on. Comments? Suggestions?

PS a jewelers loupe and an iPad are a wonderful thing. :D

If it's just for personal wear and you want to be able to enjoy it I would see about getting it filled. There's not much else I would think you could do. The piece looks gorgeous!

How big is the stone? What about finding a replacement for it?

It's about a .8 carat round OEC. I dont need it for the setting, its going to come out of that anyway. I was just hoping I could repurpose it into something else but I dont want to buy a new one to replace it.

Anyone know a place that could fill or fix this? Local jewelers where I live are limited in skill.
