If you're planning to be in NYC any time soon, go see the newly renovated Mignone Halls of Gems and Minerals at AMNH. They are spectacular! And the jewelry hall has a temporary display of animal-themed jewelry that will only be there until September, so don't wait. I know MANY of you will want to see it.

My photos are terrible, but the exhibits are amazing.

I left many a nose print on the glass. And the mineral hall is, if anything, even more wonderful than the gem hall. The specimens are jaw dropping.

I couldn't get a decent photo of my favorite case in the gem hall, the stars and cats eyes. The Star of India giant blue star sapphire and the star ruby (whose name I can't remember) are just sooooo beautiful. And there's a fantastic chrysoberyl cat's eye that's heart stopping too.

This looks like such an amazing exhibit.
The glass is frustrating, isn't it, when you want to reach in and TOUCH the jewels!
I love museums and sometimes they are just overwhelming.
Then I get a big headache afterward from squinting at all the little cards on the displays!
