Hi--I have an EC stone that is 1.50 ratio so its the classic EC shape. I have longish tapering kites right now (.31tw) that are poorly cut and I want to add some new side stones that are not only better cut but a little bigger--maybe about .50 tw. Does anyone have thoughts on the best shape sidestone that will give it that classic deco look bt provide some oomph for the center stone. Size recs would be helpful too. TIA!

Do you have any pics of your current ring for reference?

no pix--its pretty simple. Anyone know a good supplier of diamond side stones?

As the "deco look" can mean different things to different people, firstly I would recommend that you look at pictures of designs e.g from past auctions to give you some food for thought (e.g. sothebys has a good selection of pictures from past/upcomingt auctions) and pick out designs that you like.

Re. sizes - as each emerald cut diamond is unique in shape and dimensions - it is hard to give advise on dimensions without knowing what styles appeal to you and how much you want to have a solitaire vs three or more diamond look.

My absolute favorite look for an EC ring is a solitaire in a low-set basket with curving double claws holding each corner, on a slender platinum band (provided the EC is large enough to stand on its own).

If it is smaller than a carat and must have side stones, I prefer dainty elongated and tapered baguettes angled down and held by a single curved prong at the outer tip, rather than larger sides that would turn the solitaire into a 3-stone ring.

As for a deco look, an EC could have two smaller lower set (flat, not angled down) EC's flanking the sides. I would choose this 3-stone style only if the center was less than 3/4 carat. I think a 3-stone looks great for a half carat center and quarter carat sides -- my mom has a RB ring like that that equals a full carat total, Dad got it for her 40th wedding anniversary and she is quite proud of it being a carat (her e-ring which she never wants to upgrade is a quarter carat solitaire in YG setting).

Styles that (to my taste) would take away from the EC center stone include brilliant cut side triangles, rounds, squares and rectangles, pears, ovals, marquise -- anything that is NOT a step cut to mimic the center stone (except for small RB melee in a halo and down the shank).

Finally, I only prefer the simple settings for step cuts because they appear overwhelmed in fancy, ornate, *blinged out* styles. A step cut diamond is "sparse" and a simple setting keeps to the look.
