Hi everyone,

So I found a dress that is really frugal and I think is pretty cute, however I can''t decide between black and white.

i''m going to attach pics in each, but note that the white is a size too big, so it will fit more like the black one if I bought it.

Thanks in advance!

And here it is in white - what do you guys think? I know that a lot of people say I should wear white at the RD - but I don't want to do that just because I HAVE to you know? Which one looks better?

Are those for sure the only two colors you are considering? I think both dresses look great on you. I hadn''t heard of the white dress code at the RD...maybe I''m just out of the loop. My friends have worn all types of colors and the only similarity between them has been that they have worn dresses you would wear to Easter mass...

October2008 - take what I'm going to say with a grain of salt. I prefer the black dress on you. I think it's classic and suits your complexion a lot better. However, I'm the kind of girl that has a million black dresses in her closet so I may be a bit biased. I'm also wondering when your rehearsal dinner is? I'm wondering if the white might be too summery depending on your answer. By the way, the dress looks great on you

Thanks girls - black and white were the only colours the dress came in - I guess I thought that white was more traditional but I agree, the black looks better than the white. The rehearsal dinner is at the start of October - so the weather could be hot hot hot or not at all.

I actually think the white is more striking, but it's hard to tell from the pictures.

You should wear whichever you love more! ...And probably what you'd get more use out of in the future. I had no idea the bride was supposed to wear white to the rehearsal dinner TOO!

I prefer the white on you. The black looks a little too clubbish to me (ie hitting the clubs after). The white looks very sophisticated. I love the style in either color on you...very pretty!

I do love both dresses...if you already have a bunch of LBDs in your closet I would go with the white and maybe add a wide belt or ribbon to color it up if needed. (I know you didn''t ask for this advice, but I think it would just look adorable!) More people at your RD will probably be wearing black so the white would also make you distinctive in that regard.

I kind of agree w/ musey that the white stands out a bit more, especially against your dark hair. Although you can rarely go wrong with a little black dress...But I'd bet several of your guests might also be wearing black dresses so the white (or a different color) would definitely pop out from the crowd.

If it were me, I'd probably lean more towards the white, if it worked with my complexion (hard to tell here based on coloring of the phone photos), mostly b/c I have sooo many black dresses, that it'd be nice to have something different. You could dress it up with some colorful accessories or something like a long black bead necklace...

But if you ultimately prefer the black, I wouldn't let what others say dissuade you from wearing it!

Okay so I went and picked up the white dress because I didn''t want to lose it now that it is on sale! I have 30 days to return it but here are 2 more pics.

I was thinking I could do some chunky accessories - like a neclace and bracelet to make it pop a little? What do you think?

I prefer the black on you - but I would add an ivory satin ribbon/sash to the waist and maybe an antique looking brooch or something to make it more romantic and less clubby... I would save the white look for the actual day...

either way though - the dress is lovely!

i really like the black on your skin tone, but the white is just as nice.... you could add any color sash to the waist or flower to the dress like sjp has done many times to either color.

hehe are those from jacob?? just went shopping yesterday and saw both the black and white there!! it''s a really pretty fabric, almost brocade....the white is beautiful...i know it''s totally old fashioned, but i tend to follow the rule of no white after labour day...so if it were me, i would go with the black with some colorful jewelry. both look great on you though!!!!

I bought a white strapless JCRew dress, and am wearing a colored cardigan for the rehearsal and dinner (BBQ at parent''s place).

Yep! From Jacob - but I forgot about the fact it is in October. Hmm...that throws another wrench in the plan. Maybe I should buy both and decide later! haha

Yeah my friend also suggested that - she has a cute little black shrug, and then I can go with black shoes and some funky black jewellery.

UCLA - when are you getting married?
