Recutting Diamond Pavilion (or Crown) that is too steep

Unfortunately I can't return for cash, but would have to do a swap for something of equivalent price or more.
If your initial intention was to recut, why you were looking for triple excellent stone? Why not looking for a big nice diamond crystal that will yield maximum carat weight after recutting?
I don't understand your logic.

@andrew777 Some questions, please answer them precisely as asked. There are workarounds to all sorts of circumstances that we can't possibly enumerate in full, but with more information we can pinpoint options for your unique situation.

1. When did you purchase your stone?
2. Are you within your return period? If not, what is your upgrade/trade-in policy? Explain all details. Do you have return/trade-in/upgrade/buy-back policy details in writing?
3. What is the GIA report number?
4. Do you already have a setting that you need any new/recut stone to fit? If so, give us details on this.
5. What is your ideal outcome? This particular stone recut to specific proportions? A new stone with your desired proportions (ie. this stone has no sentimental value)?

Appreciate everyone's advice. I've decided that my best bet will be to just let her enjoy this stone for the time being and if she gets tired of it a year or two i'll just upgrade it into a 4 carat ideal cut that will knock her socks off.

That's fine if she loves it! But you certainly can ask Brian Gavin's opinion.

What I would have recommended if you could have returned it was to ask Whiteflash to custom cut an H VS2 for you. Because you could have gotten into the high 2 ct range in a superideal cut. mrsB recently had them cut a 4 ct stone for her.
