I got 3.10 carat Cushion Cut diamond, 100% Natural Color, GREEN.
It's extremely Poor Cut, and I'm going to get it recutted into an "Ideal Cut", Radiant/Octagon Cut.

My question is as I dont know how to calculate it myself;
How much in Carat Weight will the diamond shrink after the recut?

Measurements before recutting: 8.60 x 7.98 x 4.68 mm
Carat Weight: 3.10 carats

The diamond will be recut into an Radiant Cut as well as "Ideal Cut" as mentioned above with the Ratio 1:1 for maximum sparkle.

Ideal Cut;
Depth %: 60.0 - 63.0%
Table %: 53.0 - 57.9%
Ratio: 1:1
Girdle: Medium

Anyone please?

hello; It is really hard to gauge hoow much you will lose with out seeing stone. My estimate is about .28-.34cts.
A very good cutter to use is Schumacher in North dakota
619 Riverwood Drive Bismarck, ND 58504
(800) 654-0456
They can give you a more precise estimate when you send the stone to them
Good luck,
Ciao,Vondercrane

Thank you very much!

That's almost a little funny ... I just sent that company an email because I want them to recut it for me!

Here's a picture of how the finished Diamond will look including mount (950PT - Platinum).
Approx. 2.70-2.90 carat when finished + diamonds in mount D/VVS1.
"Super Ideal Cut - Ratio 1:1 - Radiant Cut"
Polish (GIA): Excellent
Symmetry (GIA): Excellent
Color: NATURAL Fancy Intense Yellowish Green
Clarity: SI2-I1 (unable to tell before recutting)

Now ... a new question ..
Regarding the 4 prongs (claws) in the setting;
Should I choose to get them in Platinum as well, Yellow Gold, or maybe even Green Gold?

Yes, Green Gold does excist (18K Green Gold = 18 parts Yellow Gold & 6 parts Silver).
Or maybe 18 parts Yellow Gold & 6 parts Platinum???

Any suggestions anyone?

Wow... I can't help it but wow! A 3ct Natural yellowish green!!! That musta have cost a bomb....

Cutting a green stone that is already certified is a very tricky proposition. Green diamonds are the most difficult to determine whether they are natural or treated. The green color is caused by natural radiation in the ground. This is not so unlike induced radiation. Often times gem labs must base their untreated determination by viewing a natural or unpolished skin of the original crystal that remains on the diamond. Polishing the stone and removing that skin could potentially render the stone indeterminable for natural certification. Does your stone currently have a GIA cert?

The diamond is in at GIA for grading right now (before re-cutting).
When it has been re-cut I'll just make GIA to update the Report already issued. :)
