Record setting rough diamond

Awesome!

Oh and I can''t believe that my silent bid of 0.50 cents for the diamond on eBay was outbid while I slept, ah well, we all work within the budgets we have available to us

Seriously, the Cullinan mine has produced some incredible diamonds over the years, I can only imagine what it must be like to have the opportunity to even gaze upon a diamond of that magnitude! Wowza! In my dreams, in my dreams...

a 250ct will look very nice on my finger!!

Can''t wait to see that one on SMTR!!!!!!

I''m curious, what would the rough dimensions of that diamond be?
L x W x H?
Can anyone figure that out based on the carats?

It is an irregular shape, but if it were a perfect cube all six sides would be 1.77 inch.

To convert 507 carats to grams, 1 ct = 0.2g.
507 carat x .2 = 101.4g

The density of diamond is 3.5 grams per cubic centimeter.
101.4g divided by 3.5 = 28.97 cubic cm

To convert cubic cm to cubic inches, multiply by 0.061.
28.97 cubic cm x 0.061 = 1.77 cubic inches.

Someone please check this math for errors.

Judging by that picture, It looks like it is big enough to be made into a salad bowl!!

That is brilliant. Thanks for the math.

My husband woke me up to tell me about the diamond. He was probably just getting me out of bed. I asked him what the color/clarity is and he said it''s a green color, B clarity, and square cut! lol THAT is why I pick out my own diamonds.

that would be a shame to cut it into an RB I could design something much more interesting.

Whats good for smaller rough sizes doesnt make it as good for super-large sizes..., I smell a trip-x-high-beam-headlight

you guys don''t understand "Chinese EGO"...the owner can then say..."i own the BIGGEST RB in the world"
any guess of whom will cut the rough of this size?

Would you need special equipment to cut something of this size? I agree it would be a shame to see it turned into a 57 facet RB.
