Hello everyone,

I have a pair of martini diamond earrings that I purchased with help from people on this forum that I want to resell. They are incredible piece of jewelry but my wife has never worn them since purchase (other than trying them on when first bought) saying that are too big. She likes the other dainty earrings that are 0.12 carat each. Anyways, what avenue will be good for me to sell these and how much would be reasonable to list for? I have no clue on resale value.
Here are pics of jewelry and Gia certifications. Thank you

Post them in the Preloved forum, maybe starting at around 30% off the retail price.

Can you reuse the stones in another project?

Current retail on the stones is ~600 for the SI2 and ~800 for the VS2. Mounts are generally worth little more than scrap on the secondary market unless they’re branded, so unfortunately the money that you put into the settings is effectively lost. That puts you at ~1400 current retail... Subtract 20-30% from that, as you’re selling preloved, and now you’re looking at a best case of ~1150. I went through your thread and that is significantly less than you paid, much better ROI to reuse the stones if you can!

If your wife is either fairly young or newly into diamond earrings, your smartest move might be to just put them in a drawer and wait because DSS is real! "DSS" stands for "Diamond Shrinkage Syndrome" a jokey way to describe the very common phenomenon of us women preferring larger and larger diamonds as time goes by! It's not at all unusual for the lovely "dainty" earrings to magically become inadequate "dinky" earrings a year or two later lol.

How is she with diamonds on her hand? You could save these and make a three stone ring for a special anniversary or event. Lab grown diamonds are beautiful and much less expensive than mined so this project could actually be fairly reasonable in cost.

If you decide to sell these, I have a friend who might be interested. She bought a pair of my .41 and .42 earrings that she doesn’t wear because she got a bigger pair. She would like to give the smaller earrings to her daughter but she said she would want to find a pair for her daughter-in-law too.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. It looks like I will be needing to go to downtown LA jewelry district to do several things. Do anyone know how much the jewelers there typically would offer to buy back your item?

Thank you Patty. It appears that my wife just wants to sell these since she just doesn't want jewelry she doesn't use. She's in "organizing mode." What avenue (ebay?) have people on here used to make those transactions? Do you know?

I’m with your wife in that I don’t like having extra things that I’m not wearing...I’m always trying to organize!

I would list them on Loupetroop...

It doesn’t have the fees that EBay charges. And then put a post in the Preloved forum here on Pricescope (under the Pricescope Cafe link above) with a link to your Loupetroop listing.

I think you could get a quote from a jeweler and see what he says then list them in Loupe Troop if you aren't happy with the quote. I think earrings this size and grade would certainly garner some interest in the pre-loved forum :) I would try for a bit higher than what Yssie suggested; you have nothing to lose after all and could always reduce if they don't sell at first.

A jeweler will offer you about 1/4 of retail. So like if they were $1200 new, think like $300. Perhaps more if you were trading them toward a new purchase ( which is already marked up). Loupe troop is your best bet for most $ back. Someone on her would use them as is or for a project. Good luck with your sale. (And lucky you that your wife is not like me)

If OP doesn’t sell his to your friend I have a pair of 0.81 ctw AGS certed from BGD that I’m going to be listing soon I think. I just have too many studs and I know I won’t wear these much anymore.

Agree. List for what you would be happy to sell them for. If you list for lower than that and they do sell, you won’t feel good about the transaction, and not having regrets is important. You can always drop your asking price if your feelings on what you’d be comfortable with change with time.

Hello everyone, I got to chat with one of the owners of the company where I purchased this and he offered to buy them back at the price I paid minus 25%. That would be $1,200. This would allow me to sell them locally rather than doing transaction online. Unless this is something you really want and want to converse with me to make an online transaction, I'd like to take this this route. Thank you everyone for all your ideas and input on this matter!

I’m glad that they are willing to work with you!
