Hello ladies! Traveling to East Asia and braving the outdoors is an exciting vacation but I am more concerned at the moment about what comfortable long pants that can be worn that would still be breathable. I would usually wear shorts but have been advised per travel blogs that skin needs to be covered when visiting temples. Do I need to delve into the world of joggers?! I have plenty of work out tights but I think that would be too hot. I have dresses but none that I would be completely ok with it getting ruined. Would love to see some inspirational outfits as well. Thanks in advance for the help!

PierreBeat, Costco has travel plants. They come in four colors and get good reviews. I ordered some the other day (in my pants buying fit!) but they haven’t come yet.

I packed a lightweight, midi-length broomstick skirt when I traveled to Rome and Isreal. It was tiered so there wasn't a bunch of extra fabric around my tummy. ;-) I was even able to pull it on over shorts when circumstances called for a quick cover-up. Anyhow, a midi- or maxi-length skirt (or any below-the knee skirt, for that matter) will serve also serve your purposes and can be very versatile. Whether you go with pants or a skirt, consider getting a coordinating, light-weight shawl that can be used to cover shoulders and upper arms as well.

I always bring 2-3 big (huge) very lightweight but nice scarves to use a pareo. In most temples where shorts are inappropriate, long trousers for women are a no-no as well. I'll just tie the fabric around my hips to create a long sheath skirt. The second shawl can be used to cover my head if necessary. Many places offer fabrics to borrow for tourists, but I'm not keen on putting those anywhere on me, usually.
In most countries I'd try to avoid tank tops completely. A nice and airy tunic is more appropriate, protects from sun and insects (I have sensitive skin, so I spray repellent on the tunic rather than my skin) and looks nice.

I am deeply obsessed with the Stevie leggings from Old Navy. A friend recommended them to me and I skeptically bought a pair, and then immediately bought 10 more. They are heavy enough not to be see through, they don't stretch out throughout the day, and they have seaming which makes them look less like leggings and more like pants. Not at all hot for me either.

Second Costco’s travel pants :D I bought 2 pairs, charcoal grey and a lighter grey.

Great for sitting around on the plane but lightweight enough to walk around in when it’s warm. They’re also the type of fabric that can be washed, given a good shake, air dried and ready to wear again.

They also do similar pairs for men, Mr A got a couple of pairs too.

They’re ankle grazers so a nice length to wear with a pr of Skechers or similar. I think they look quite smart too.

I took a long sleeved linen shirt to put on when we visited temples, just rolled it up in my bag when I wasn’t using it.

Hi All! Thank you for the responses and glad that I haven't been the only one who has gone through this process and that ya'll found something that worked. Perhaps I'm being a bit too picky but I'm also looking for pants with true pockets at the back. Not that I want to hold anything in those pockets but I wanted something that "wasn't too revealing/shapely" so your underwear line doesn't show. I really appreciate the links that have been shared but I think that has been my concern when I was seeing the bottom half. Thoughts? Or no problem with the underwear line?

@VRBeauty - I have toyed with the idea of wearing a skirt! Do you have a link or recommendation on what you got? The skirts I found were either too long to walk in or too short. Smart idea that you can pull it on over your shorts!

For over 40's, I love Chico's Travelers line. The next time I go somewhere, I am going to buy my whole wardrobe there. I have a few pieces now and wear them at home because they are so comfortable. They are great because they pack well and won't wrinkle if rolled.

Here you go @PierreBear modelled by moi, although I know you’re considerably smaller. The Costco ones do have proper back pockets

Shoulders and knees have to be covered - you don't need to go full coverage.
I was in thailand a few months back and ended up buying some athletic/yoga capris. I even wore some dresses (covered the knee) and a shawl.
You can even bring a saraong/shawl thing (I'm sure it has a name I just cant remember it!) and wrap around your shorts for when entering the temple.

I bought khakis from Old Navy for a trip to Indonesia, and they were fine.

@Austina - Looking good girl! Agree that the Costco ones do have great back pockets. I think it helps to have a BEAUTIFUL model too. :appl: Appreciate it! I have a SAMs membership but it is similar to Costco so I'm going to scope out for something similar.
