I'm seeking a round stone between 1 and 1.5 ct. I have a good idea of the range I would like in color and clarity, but how can I tell if the cut is good? Are depth % and table % the main indicators, and if so, what are good numbers? Am I way off on this?

Also, how do these ones look?

CJ,

Table & depth is a starting place, but in today's world, no reason not to also incorporate crown & pavilion angles, which are generally readily available. Read the tutorial above under knowledge for background, and this page in particular tries to show why table & depth are not enough.

On this board, as you'll read, the HCA's been developed to help you eliminate poorer options, by the numbers, out of the box. Above, under prices, use the search by cut db to automate this process for you.

Edited to add...pretty much all "a cut above's" are fine makes...not too much additional looking needed. Most of WF's are otherwise good, too, but I would still use that search by cut screener, as not all of them pass. Still, some of their Expert Selection (like the 3 others you picked) are good values, and worth looking more closely at, to get a bit more for your money...

Regards,
