Nice looking garnet mochi. Congrats. I am a bit confuzed though. Is it a rhodolite or a color change garnet??

Yes, its a Rhodolite garnet. All these pictures were taken outside. I''m not sure why it''s color has shifted. Are these particular garnets known for changing colors??? It wasn''t on the description when I bought it.

They are not known for color change. Although a slight color shift can be expected. In some lighting the hue can look more purple and at times the hue will lean more towards red. I was just wondering about the blue I see reflected off of the crown.

I have a royal rhodolite from Rick as well. It also has a blue flash that you can see at times and one of my favourite things about the stone.

Having just looked at several hundred rhodolites over the last week, I found perhaps 80 stones that had the ''royal'' rhodolite colour and around 50% of these showed a blue flash as well. I don''t know if it''s down to the cut, or a characteristic of a certain chemical make-up - would be interesting to know.

I am very pleased with the stone that I received from Rick. It does have that blue flash and it''s so very pretty. I have been eyeing a double halo LOGR setting that would be perfect for the stone.
