From WF, a 1.2 H SI1 ACA on a harmony band.

So when I am indoors, the main diamond is much whiter and brighter than the diamonds on the band, however when I step outside directly under sunlight, the band sparkles much more and the center diamond almost looks blueish.

Here is a pic of it outside. What am I to make of this?

The ring looks beautiful. I don''t have an explanation as to why the diamond looks different in indoor vs. outdoor lighting, but can say that my diamond often does teh same thing -- ie, it seems to be at its most brilliant either indoors or outdoors in a little shade. But in direct sunlight, it goes a little dark.

I think I read somewhere that ideal cut diamonds often go dark in direct sunlight, but I forget why this happens.

Most diamonds will have a slightly different sparkle character in strong sunlight. Since your stone is an ACA and ACAs don''t have fluorescence unless they''re a color K or lower, the blue you''re seeing is a reflection of the sky. Cool, right?

This is normal, diamonds can show very different '' faces'' and behaviours according to the available light. Assuming this diamond has no fluorescence, then Merc could be right and that is the sky reflecting in the diamond.

In certain lights, an ideal cut stone will look darker and become more fiery. My ACA does this, in really strong downlights, and in the carpark elevator - I love it! The stone (which is a D colour) looks darker, almost a blue tinge (neg fluroro) and gives off all this fire, it looks amazing.

Another joy of owning an ACA!
