chose this diamond with solitaire setting, gf decided on a ~.7 solitare after looking at a few in costco similar.

.7, E, VVS2, Ideal
HCA score 1.4 - Excellent

Light Return - Excellent
Fire - Excellent
Scintillation - Excellent
Spread - Very Good

I'm not worried about getting a larger one for same price or, getting another .7 in F color for little cheaper, i'm concerned if this .7 is a solid choice.

I plan on wire xfering this evening, so if I've missed something big and should re-evaluate my choice, please let me know!

Thanks!

Don't be afraid to put me in my place...I'll admit I only spent a couple days researching.

The only thing that would make me pause is that the GIA cert says strong blue flourescence. If you've spoken with someone at BN, have they mentioned this? There are times when flourescence can cause milkiness and I would hate if a stone with such a high color and clarity be lessened because of this - it may be fine but I don't know from a piece of paper.

The strong florescence also concerned me. I don't want to risk getting a cloudy diamond. This is the first time I've heard of fluorescence causing cloudiness, when I looked into it earlier all I saw was people saying not be be afraid of fluorescence.

hmm..now I don't know what to do!

In most cases fluoresence is not an issue with a stone. I have heard of (but never seen myself) cases where some types of inclusions combined with fluor can cause some problems. I think there is still a lot of misinformation and hype regarding fluor out there in general.

the good thing is, you do havea return policy in place with Blue Nile. You can also take it to an appraiser once you get it and have them look at it for you to assess it. If you are interested in looking at other on line places that do have pictures of their stones or have someone who can look at them in house, then you might start a new thread to explore those possibilities too.

I am not sure what to tell you. A lot of the posts here say that it's a rare occurence but if you end up with one of the ones that has it, I would be upset. Here's a link to a post about it: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/flor-oily-vs-hazy-milky.132308/

Looks like you want a high color/clarity diamond in about the .7 range, and from your first post don't want to be dissuaded about getting a larger carat/lower clarity or color for your money, so I respect that.

Here are some options that have photos/asets that might fit the bill, unless you're really wanting to go with BN. I have no idea of your budget, just trying to stay in similar color/clarity/size options with ideal cuts.

This is one from BGD:

Another from BGD, with flourescence, but since they have the photos and check for milkiness, shouldn't be a problem:

I love the Whiteflash ACA, unfortunately i'm stuck with a 4k budget, and my GF is stuck on a certain setting from Bluenile.

maybe i'll go ahead and purchase, check it out in person and get it appraised, then return if I'm not satisfied like basetcat suggested. I do like to gamble haha.

I think as long as you're not under any deadline, and since they have a return policy, you should go for it.

Although I think it's worth a call to BN to have one of their folks evaluate the flourescence.

This is good advice!

I don't think the stone is in house. They are mainly drop shippers. The only stones they have in house are their Signature line, I think. So he'd need to take it to an appraiser (and I would suggest it again) but just by the numbers things look promising. Seeing it in person is next.

yep, I think bastetcat is right after relooking. Doesn't look like it's an in-house stone. Still might be worth a phone call.

ok, I appreciate you guys help very much :)

I just spoke with Bluenile and they said the vendor reported it eye-clean with no cloudiness.

That is probably their standard textbook response about florescence, but it made me feel better at least haha.

I plan on getting appraisal for certain.

I've made the xfer, i'll PM you guys some high res pics when it arrives

Thanks again!
