Really like this stone but is this H&A image a concern?

Hey there guys

I am looking to purchase this round brilliant stone and it is claimed to be hearts and arrow(perfection cut branded) from online vendor B2C.
GIA certified with excellent cut grade.

The H&A image however shows that at the very top right corner (1 o clock position) there is a large yellow band of marking?

Is this a cause of concern?

Secondly, the HCA rating on this diamond is 1.1 with pretty much, ex, ex, ex, and vg.

Please let me know if I should pull the trigger this week and if that yellow-ish thing is a cause for concern.

Hi Nukezero and welcome!

Can you post all the proportions please and link to the report, or if just all the proportions, carat weight, colour and clarity? That would be helpful. As to the yellow mark, I am not quite sure what that is, there could be several possible causes but the above requested info might help, if not, we can find out.

It appears to be an excellently cut stone but going by the images, it does not appear to show quite the crisp precision I look for when judging a H&A cut. But bearing in mind we see many flawlessly cut branded H&A diamonds here, my standards are high and this is still a superbly cut diamond!

If you could post the info requested above please, then we can go from there, I hope in the meantime this is helpful.

Hi There

I've attached the GIA report. The thing is, I know there are "superb" H&A diamonds out there from WF, GoG, and even Brian Gavin, but those rocks command an even more 20-25% premium over this rock (assuming same carat, color, clarity, etc.). I would like a nice cut diamond but wanted to be at the "lower" end range of the H&A selections due to budget, while ensuring that the rock is still relatively H&A qualified.

but the problem is that one is AGSlabs, and the serial number is not inscribed in the diamond. The only way to tell is to compare the plot of the defects. I thought this was unacceptable to me. How can anyone accurately use that, let alone a layman like me. I am by no means an expert and would prefer to have my diamonds "stamped" with some serial number so I can sleep better at night. Let me know if this fear is unfounded ?

Yes, it's unfounded. This is why:

1. JA is a highly reputable vendor, and will definitely send you the correct diamond.
2. If you don't believe us, go to an independent appraiser, who will be an expert at identifying inclusions, and ask them to verify that the diamond mathces the report. This cost of this service will be a few hundred dollars, a fraction of the cost of the diamond.
3. If you're worried about some other jeweler in the future possibly switching out your diamond, this is extremely rare, because it is so easy to detect and it it would put them out of business or in jail or both.
4. If you want, you can have the AGS lab report number laser-inscribed on the diamond girdle.
5. But this means that anybody with a laser inscription machine could "fake" an inscription, by putting your diamond's number onto some inferior diamond, and pulling a switch-a-roo! Now, please see response #3 above (i.e., in practice this would never happen), but my point is that having an identification number inscribed on your diamond is not fool-proof from a security stand-point.

What you are seeing (the yellow mark) is simply a photography anomaly. There may be a small tear in the colored paper of the viewer, or light is coming in from the top. I think you will find the ASET, IS, and other photos will alleviate any of the concerns you may have about this stone’s level of performance.

Do you guys think it is worth to pay $2600-3000 more on top of $9600 and not a H&A cut just to get the diamond to look bigger?

Right now, this rock is 6.88 x 6.91mm. I am thinking to go up to 7.37 x 7.37mm to make it bigger, still an excellent cut gia grade and same color/clarity but not a H&A anymore. In addition, it would cost me $2600-3000 more.

Does it make sense to go bigger?

She's a size 4.25 ring size.

This diamond looks fine. But you need to decide on your budget. If you actually want to spend $3000 more, then you can get a larger GIA XXX stone that is well cut like this one. I would say if falls into ideal cut territory, but I am not sure whether WF or GOG would label it H&A or not. I certainly would not go down to a lower cut quality stone if you decide to spend $3k more. You likely are not paying a premium for "H&A" on this stone. It should be in line with other GIA XXX stones as far as pricing is concerned.

The inscription is immaterial. Many or most diamonds do not have one. The diamond can easily be verified by the measurements and the inclusion plot.
