I had a reality check last night as I was reviewing pricing on Tacori settings. Although they happen to be her favorite and truthfully I have fallen for their beauty, they seem to be out of my price range. It''s a horrible realization when they are other things I would like to spend money on also... wedding, honeymoon, etc.

I was reviewing other brands but nothing I saw does it for me like the Tacori look. Does anyone have any ideas or know of any custom designers that have the Tacori look?? She has a small ring size and loves the look of the antique feel that Tacori has. Anyone know of another avenue or idea that I havent thought of yet?

If you aren''t set on a certain Tacori, overstock.com carries some. You just need to be sure that the ring you order from them can accommodate the right size center stone AND that it either is her size or can be sized to her size. Then you just buy a diamond elsewhere to replace the CZ and voila. Tacori for less.

Do you have a picture of the Tacori ring you like???

Well... Sort of and Maybe? Current Tacori designs are only available through authorized retailers and designs that have been discontinued or which are not selling fast enough are sold off to Overstock and availability is limited. If Overstock happens to have a Tacori ring style that you like, you''re in luck, but if they don''t, they can''t get it.

If the seat has been cut to accomodate a cubic zirconia, then the prongs may need to be replaced in order to set a diamond securely because the girdle edge of a diamond is usually thinner than the girdle edge of a cubic zirconia - thus people may find that a diamond set in place of where a CZ once sat may spin freely in the seat and loosen easily. This is why a lot of Tacori dealers order their stock from Tacori either without a CZ center stone or with the CZ just pinched into the setting.

Tacori offers their current production in both platinum and 18k gold Marley so you might consider an 18k version of the ring because it will be less expensive than platinum. It is also important to note that Tacori usually produces each ring in different sizes built to accommodate different size center stones - the largest of which is almost always the style number featured in their advertisements and the price for an advertised piece which takes a 2 - 3 carat center stone can be staggering when compared to an option that is built for a smaller center stone. What style number was of interest to you? And what size diamond are you considering?

By the way, Tacori is one of the few jewelry design companies which "aggressively" defends their copyrighted designs, including the crescent pattern that appears within the design of many of their rings. They are right up there with Disney in terms of their commitment to protecting their designs and few custom jewelers are foolish enough to knock off their work because the profit to be made from a sale here and there is not worth the potential loss in legal fees and damages. If you ever want to have a little fun, walk into a jewelry store and say something like "I''d like you to make me a Mickey Mouse ring that looks just like this pin that I picked up while I was on vacation..." you can almost see the mental calculations running in their head as to how much this conversation is going to cost them.

I know its been a few months since my last post but I was busy buying a house. Closing is at the end of the month. Now with that done, I want to get back to the engagement ring and engagement. Todd, the information you gave was wonderful. The deals that overstock has seem great, I guess I just get nervous thinking that I am going to buy a ring and once bought I wont be able to find anyone to add a nice stone etc. I am not sure i have a pipe dream, but the top of my price point for both the ring and diamond together was about 3k. Here is what i am looking for. She loves the antique look that Tacori offers. She is small framed so I dont want a large ring and stone. I believe her size is a size 6. I am trying to locate a simple platinum or white gold ring with a nice stone. Seems simple enough, but in reviewing alot of the sites, tacori is way out of my league other than some on overstock. Anyone have advise or help? I am looking to ask her in the next few months.

I understand that money is tight, especially with buying a new house (congratulations by the way!!), but I had a similar dilemma. I had a budget in mind and I saw a Scott Kay setting that I absolutely fell in love with. In the end, I couldn''t find anything to come close to it and had to pay the extra for that setting. IMO, it was worth the extra sacrifice now because this was a once in a lifetime purchase and I didn''t want to settle for anything less than the best. Money is tight right now for me, but I know i made the right decision in the end. This is just my personal opinion and I''m sorry, but I don''t know of anywhere to get one similar to the Tacori. My advise is to just bite the bullet and get it, even if it means stretching your budget a little bit. Good luck, and keep us posted!

I hppe I am not breaking any rules!!!! I got my Tacori set out of state with 20% off and no tax. Would that help enough in lowering the cost?!

Another thought...

What about a plain solitaire for the e-ring, and then buy a Tacori wedding band? Overstock has some beautiful bands, and most are about her size!

If you are sure that is what she wants, get it for her, but tell her that the diamond sitting within the setting will have to be lower quality or smaller. I bet she will say to get the better stone than the better setting, although there are people that are more concerned with the setting than the stone...

Thanks all. I think I''m more concerned with the ring than she is. I just want to find the best ring/setting/diamond possible for myh money without feeling like I need to go to the local mall and goto a Kay''s. She loves the antique look of the Tacori. She mentioned it in passing a few years back and I wrote it down. This is why I have been hooked on that name. Although the response yesterday that mentioned Beverly K was very helpfull because although they have fewer types, a few are lesser expensive. If it were me I would say I would want a nice diamond somewhere around 1ct and then a setting that is antique looking that makes it pop. I''ve been browising the different brands recently to see if there are others that are similar. I''ve also been searching to see some that were made from jewlers associated with the board.
