I''ve always had this dream of having not only matching rings for my wedding, but also set with diamonds cut from the same rough stone. Is that realistic or should I just be content with whatever I get from the store?

I'll say this -

Not IMPOSSIBLE, but depending on the design of your rings, highly unlikely, labor intensive, and probably quite, quite, quite, quite, quite, quite, quite expensive? :)

Not impossible, if you commission a vendor to do it for you starting from the rough.

If you''re on a budget, this will blow it, I should think.
If you have boundless means anything''s possible

Haha... I -do- have a budget really, but I thought it would be something special and original... even oddly romantic. But I guess I could scout around for prices, if only I knew where to start looking. >.<

Just check with some of the vendors and ask for a quote on doing that kind of project.

Hello Melissa,

It is possible, but not that easy. I sometimes notice that a dealer calls in two stones from us to have a customer compare them, that they come from the same rough stone.

It however is not something that we actively track, so if you would ask us, we would have to backtrack to match the stones again. And for retailers, who have no direct connection to the original rough, it is impossible to retrieve this.

So, again, it is possible, but you will need some patience and you will have to accept that your choice becomes somewhat more limited.

Live long,

Out of curiosity, I checked our current stock for such couples, and found indeed two couples of princess-cuts coming from the same rough stone. One couple are 2 stones of over 2Cts, the other is one 2Ct-stone coupled with a 0.70.

Also, I found a number of couples, of which the second stone is so small that we do not bother getting an AGS-report on it. We generally sell these as a service to our retailers, when they need a well-cut smaller stone.

All this just to show that it is possible, but your choice will be limited and/or you will have to be patient while waiting for the right ''couple'' coming out of production.

Live long,

I would say, if you have the time to wait, GO FOR IT!!!

Sounds very unique, special and romantic to me. Its your ring, your wedding...

In any case - do not "settle" for just whatever the store has when you can get great diamonds!!!

Thanks, you guys... That was very encouraging to hear that it is possible. And I do have time to wait because I''ve not been proposed to yet (in a very steady relationship, though). LOL. I''m only scouting around at the moment to see if it''s something realistic to achieve, to avoid disappointment when I do really start looking.

So there won''t be an extra cost to track these diamonds? How much would it be to purchase loose diamonds then have rings crafted for them?

Depends wildly on the person crafting the rings. But generally that's what we all do here is buy stones and then get the settings for them. Better quality that way and if you buy from good vendors often better prices too.

My suggestion is to hang around here and learn everything you can before heading out to purchase. There is a lot to be learned.

Neatfreak says it well, pricing on the mountings will depend wildly on both the dealer and what you are looking for. Please realize also that there are only a few cutters who have the time and the patience to help you find these paired stones. It is those few who are willing to take the time who make your quest possible.

Wink

Right. I''ll keep that in mind. Thanks. :)
