Has anyone seen this video by Dove? I was a little troubled by the lack of WOC, but overall I thought it was pretty moving, and a good illustration of how hard women are on themselves:

I liked it. But some of the comments of skepticism in the article I thought were true as well, about how they seem to pick people of a specific socioeconomic class and generally expected levels of attractiveness.

I agree. I didn't read the comments, but I noticed that as well. And, as I said, the lack of a significant number of women of color stood out to me, too.

Meh!

While I certainly support higher self esteem for all women, and men, and detest the beauty industry and media brainwashing us into thinking we're inferior and need to buy something to be more groovy ... Dove's campaign strikes me as little more than a way to sell soap to us 96% who think we're ugly.

When the execs thought this up in a boardroom their goal was profits, not making the world a better place.
Dove is a business, not some non-profit social engineering entity.

Don't forget Dove is a beauty soap that is purported to make your skin look better.
Isn't that shallow and counter to Dove's 'we're all equally beautiful' campaign?

Truth. Plus the same parent company produces the misogynistic ads for Axe products, so I'm not too impressed.

I see they didn't interview any women with disfiguring skin diseases.

Interesting, interesting... what if you don't hate how you look? This video pushes the idea what women are all harsh on themselves. I may be a little bashful to really describe myself admiringly to some guy sketching, but honestly... I think Dove pushes the idea too hard that women have a negative image of themselves. Sure, we can be critical... but I sure hope most women love themselves and their faces/bodies more than Dove implies!

It's kind of sad that the one participant said that beauty affects everything... from the friends you make to your job, etc. I really hope that women can feel confident because of our minds and personalities, that we can find beauty within.
