I have this stone on hold at WF; even though it is not one of their "A Cut Above" stones, it is rated AGS ideal, and has an exceptional Aset image. Any reason why I should wait? I have the setting, and I''ve confirmed that this stone will fit perfectly. Bob at WF has verified that it is eyeclean.

Or is this a better stone? It seems to have better light performance. Will I notice a difference in color between G and I if it''s set in platinum and the sidestones are G?

The G is very nice. Not sure you would be able to see performance difference with the naked eyes.

i'm coming fom a perspective of a guy that have just purchased a princess today. I have to say that i'm no expert in judging princesses but have been doing weeks of research before i pulled the trigger today. I'm writing only to give you my general thought process in hopes that it helps you too. i might be over reaching a bit assuming you are getting an engagement ring.. but in case you are not.

1. the questions you need to ask self
a. does the girl you are buying for likes princess?? or would mind a princess??
i'm asking this b/c round seemslike the perferred choice for many woman

b. what is your budget?
looks like 6k is about what you are ready to spend but are you comfortable with spending that much?? i initially ready to spend ~10k for everything but settled on a 5k diamond after discovering that's what i'm comfortable with. I didn't want extra insurance nor would my girl feel comfortable sporting a large piece of jewerly (she normally doesn't wear any)

c. are you willing to upgrade down the line?
the market for the US dollar is pretty weak. so it would automatically mean that you have more competition with the rest of the world in terms of price range. Vendors such as GoG and WF has upgrade options so that was very attractive to me.

d. do you need to buy now??
if you need something now, those 2 are perfectly good candiates.

2. what i have learned on price scope
a. no one can tell you if it's a good price or not unless it's obvious.
every stone is different. it's fairly simple to get into the ball park but no one can tell you if a stone is an good deal or fair deal. diamonds are priced at market price. believe me when i say that the jewlers pay much more attention to price than you and i so it's best to just to have 2-3 stones as you have and ask ppl to pick their perferance.

b. buy quickly. stones will come and go. i spotted several rounds i liked only to be sold to someone else last week from WF.

c. pull the trigger.. i know it's hard.. but if you followed 1.b, 1.c then it's okay to buy right away since 1. you are comfortable with it and 2. you can always upgrade.

d. be willing to scrifice. i went down to a lower color, I instead of H, to get a larger stone. know that princess will look smaller than rounds so it's a good idea to take advantage of their lower price and buy larger. (i assumed the color difference will not be that noticable since they are not that bright in comparison to rounds)

e. ask questions and talk to vendors. i called GoG and whiteflash. let them work for you. i find them both to be extra helpful and not so pushy vs B&M stores.

f. this is what you need to know about a princess cut. everything is there.. look for those charactistics when picking out your princess.

with all that said, this is the stone i purchased today and i'm happy with it.

i'm not saying it's better or worse than what you have picked because it's up to you to decide and compare. at the end of the day you can't go wrong with WF or GoG

it's really not that bad once you make the leap.. sorta empty feeling thinking what do i do now.. think of it this way, it's not like you are picking out a wife or anything of that sort.. you've already got the hard part of picking the person you are willing to marry over with s0 just get her a stone... i thought of it as a cherry on top. a member of this forum said that she'd loved anything i picked out and i think there's much truth in that.

hope this helped. just trying to give back to this forum.. might of typed too much

oh my thread in case you wondered what i wrote

Sapient, it is MY engagement ring. I''m the bride-to-be! I''m in charge of making the decision on the stone. I already have the ring (with a CZ center stone) on my finger, so yes, I am anxious to have the real stone, but I''m also willing to wait to get a great stone. I chose the setting, so yes, princess is absolutely what I want. The stones I''m looking at are in the budget. And just about 1 ct is the size I want.

Thanks for the link to info on pricess cuts; I already have it and have studied the same info you''ve been researching, which I must say has been enormously helpful.

Before I make the final decision I was seeking opinions regarding the stones'' light performance, which one might perform better, and will I notice a difference if I get the "I" colored stone rather than the "G."

The I is an ACA which has better light performance than the ES line. I would take cut over colour anyday, with an ideal cut stone you are less likely to see colour. I vote for the ACA.

Have Brian at WF compare the two, and pick the better one, if there is one.

Quadritto the gals - vendor opinion would be good on this one . Both will be nice.
I don''t have much real life experience with princesses ...(diamonds or royalty -

).... - perhaps choosing the one which is more structurally sound / has less included could be beneficial (ie. the VS2 over the Si1). That may give you more peace of mind, with regards to the issue that some princess could potentially be prone to chipping..?

Sorry, I am by no means trying to worry you - Si1 is of course Very acceptable - this is where I like to buy! But just thought it could be something else to consider and help you decide..

ok, rant over lol!
